Eat your breakfast on the lawn or enjoy afternoon tea in the garden
Set in the heart of a tea plantation estate, originally planted by Sir Thomas Lipton of Lipton tea, Thotalagala enjoys spectacular views over the Hill Country and thanks to its eastern location, normally enjoys fantastic weather during June, July and August - which is unusual for Sri Lanka's hills. The property lies in the Haputale Escarpment, a perfect stop between Kandy and Sri Lanka's southern national parks such as Yala and Uda Walawe.
The bungalow, that dates back to the 1870s, is home to seven beautifully and traditionally designed fan-cooled suites that are perfectly in-keeping with the wonderful colonial heritage of the building. Think polished wooden floors, antique furniture and large comfortable beds that are surrounded by original pictures and photographs of the area. Each room is named after British gentlemen that played a huge part in the development of tea growing in Sri Lanka.
Spend time here enjoying breakfast on the lawn, gourmet barbeques, picnic breakfasts and simply enjoying a book overlooking the spectacular views. Alternatively head out on foot, as the area is fantastic for trekking, hiking and bird watching.

Enjoy exclusive access to the Dumbatanne tea factory and the bungalow which was Sir Thomas Lipton’s residence from 1890 to 1910 when staying at the Thoalagala hotel.
