Walk among emerald hills at Ceylon Tea Trails, where restored tea-planters’ bungalows, bespoke service and rich plantation heritage invite you to slow down, savour exquisite teas and live the timeless rhythm of Sri Lanka’s Central Highlands.
Ceylon Tea Trails promises the most luxurious tea experience in Sri Lanka’s Ceylon tea region, comprised of five restored historic tea planters’ bungalows, each completely unique.
Follow the Tea Trail from one bungalow to the next, staying a night or two at each, or just stopping for lunch along your hiking route through the working tea plantations.
A philosophy of ‘no menus, just indulgence’, this Relais and Chateux property promises an exquisite tea inspired culinary feast.
A stay at Ceylon Tea Trails offers an authentic, intimate and exploratory journey into the heart, soul and history of the Ceylon tea region.
In the verdant heart of Sri Lanka’s Central Highlands, where mist curls over emerald tea gardens and gentle breezes carry the scent of fresh leaves, Ceylon Tea Trails feels as though history has breathed life into every hillside. Here, the restored tea-planters’ bungalows each have their own character, antiques and stories, scattered across 2,000 acres of rolling estate, inviting you to wander at leisure through shaded paths and flower-filled gardens.
Mornings begin with bed-tea delivered to your veranda, the world awakening in soft greens and golds beyond. Days here are yours to shape: stroll through the plantation with a resident tea planter, watching leaves unfurl at the Dunkeld Tea Factory; kayak over the glassy Castlereagh Reservoir as light dances across the water; or amble along quiet trails in the company of nature guides who know every birdcall and hidden vista.
Meals are soulful and personal, a seasonal symphony of local produce and delicate tea-infused creations, crafted daily through conversation with your chef. In the evening, settle into a wicker chair by the fire, a perfectly steeped brew in hand, and let the serenity of the highlands envelop you. This is not just a stay, it’s an invitation to live within the landscape, find joy in simple rituals, and return with a deeper understanding of Sri Lanka’s living legacy.
When to visit
After enjoying breakfast on your veranda, take a walk (not forgetting your camera) through the hills to another bungalow for lunch. You’ll build up your appetite and if you’re too full to walk home your driver will be at your disposal to come and pick you up!
