The best time to visit Oman is between November and mid-March, when the cooler air brings the mountain scenery sharply into focus and daytime temperatures average at 25°C. For the rest of the year, much of Oman is oppressively hot and hazy, particularly between May and August.

Begin this active adventure as soon as you land in Muscat and are collected by your private driver/ guide for the journey to Nizwa, in the beautiful Jabal Al Akhdar mountain range. The drive to Nizwa is approximately 3.5 hours, but you will stop for sightseeing at picture perfect wadis and dramatic rock formations along the way. Depending on the time of year, Oman's rugged mountains are often contrasted with pockets of fertile green valleys below, filled with date plantations and orchards, making it strikingly beautiful. Spend two nights outside the town of Nizwa itself, in a comfortable lodge, the perfect base for your first big trek- the Via Ferrata on Jebel Shams, Oman’s highest mountain.

Finally, you will bid farewell to the mountains and embark on your journey into the desert, to join your luxury tented camp in Wahiba Sands. Whilst in desert, you could spend time driving through the dunes in a 4x4, sand boarding and meeting the local and incredibly friendly Bedouin people. We have included an excursion to the Al Hayer Falls where there are plenty of hidden pools and waterfalls to jump off in the twisting depths of the canyon. In the evening you can enjoy a candle lit game of cards under the stars, or simply walk a little way into the desert to enjoy the silence.

At a Glance
The route back to Muscat takes you along the Eastern Coastal Route. This drive is approximately 4.5 hours and will include breaks to stop at points of interest along the way, such as traditional dhow yards and for a swim at the famous Bimmah sink hole. Finally, you arrive back in Muscat, for your final two nights in Oman. Relax and unwind, maybe pamper yourself with a treatment at the spa or lie on the beach with a good book. If you are still looking for more, we have included a two-hour snorkelling trip to examine the fantastic range of corals just off the coast, where you will also find beautiful fish and turtles.
