An experience not to be missed for rum lovers, the Rumerie de Chamarel is a small distillery producing agricultural rum made from the sugar cane grown in the fields behind. The rum is made by distilling pure cane juice rather than the molasses used in mass production. Visitors to the Rhumerie can enjoy an informative tour of the distillery, learning all about the sophisticated, yet traditional processes involved in producing their world class rums.
At the end of your tour, you can of course sample their range of produce, which includes 3 rums, a white, double distilled and gold rum, and four flavoured liqueurs.
An ideal end to your visit is a tasty meal at L'Alchimiste, their à la carte restaurant, which serves up a fusion of French and Mauritian cuisine.
