Heritage Madurai was designed by world-renowned architect Geoffrey Bawa. The original Club House and key elements showcase his idea, including the flooring, pillars and roof which have all been preserved through the restoration process. Along with this, a new building has been thoughtfully built with the ambience of the old Club House in mind, including the addition of decorative 18th Century Chettinad columns from Karaikudi.
Rooms at the Heritage Madurai have wooden floors, wooden furniture, white linens and Indian rugs with gorgeous views of the surrounding landscape and forest. All rooms have air-conditioning, ensuite bathrooms and modern amenities. The villas have there own personal courtyard, terrace and plunge pool that is fringed with frangipani trees.
From the lobby area, one can see through to the stunning swimming pool, which has been designed to replicate a temple tank and is beautifully lit at night, lying in the shade of an old Banyan tree.
Madurai is one of the oldest cities in India, with a temple on almost every street which makes walking around an experience in itself. Some of the local attractions include the Meenakshi Sundareswar Temple, the Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal Palace, the Kazimar Big Mosque, the Gandhi Museum, Goripalayam Dargah, Theppakulam and Koodal Azhagar Koil.
