This busy port is now a fascinating place through which to explore Vietnam’s diverse history, strolling past wooden shops, colourful markets and stalls ladling out delicious Cao Lau noodles.
With many car-free streets, the UNESCO Word Heritage listed old town is a delight to explore on foot, discovering the Chinese and Japanese quarters, or by kayak along the Thu Bon River. Further afield the paddy fields and farmlands are speckled with tiny villages and traditional industries where buffalo cart and boat take you through the lush landscape.
