Murchison Falls
Located in north-west Uganda is the country’s largest protected area, Murchison Falls National Park. Famed for its wide variety of wildlife and eponymous waterfall, this park offers a different and dramatic safari experience. Here you can walk to the top of the falls, enjoy a boat trip or simply sit back and watch as the animals drink at the banks of the White Nile.
One of Uganda’s oldest conservation areas, founded in 1926, Murchison Falls National Park is a large area with a wealth of wildlife. The range of habitats, from the grassland north of the river to the dense woodland to the south, allows for a diverse ecosystem, including elephant, giraffe, leopard, hippo and over 460 species of bird – this is one of the few places to spot the elusive shoebill! Chimp trekking is also possible at nearby Budongo Forest. Marvel at the sight of Murchison Falls, where the mighty force of the Nile is pushed through a gap just 8 metres wide, and venture out onto the river for a truly special boat safari.
