Gorongosa Chicari Camp

Chicari takes its name from the traditional clay drinking pot, an homage to the permanent pan that stretches out before it. This life-giving waterhole draws a gentle procession of wildlife throughout the day, from bathing elephants to grazing antelope and a kaleidoscope of birdlife. Set amongst fever trees and lush woodland, the camp blends effortlessly into its surroundings, offering a sense of quiet seclusion without sacrificing comfort. Accommodation is intimate and beautifully considered. Eight en-suite safari tents sit lightly on the landscape, each with a private deck overlooking the water, where wildlife viewing becomes an effortless part of the day. Two distinctive Treehide Tents are tucked at the base of a wooden treehouse structure and share a generous elevated deck, an ideal retreat for families or friends travelling together, with uninterrupted views across the pan. Days unfold gently yet adventurously. Guided walks begin right from camp, revealing the intricate details of Gorongosa’s remarkable ecosystems, while game drives with expert local guides explore the park’s varied landscapes in search of lions, wild dogs and a wealth of lesser-known endemic species found nowhere else on earth. Evenings draw guests back to the heart of camp. Around a fire pit and within the softly lit dining tent, where the team prepare fresh, wholesome meals and indulgent homemade high-tea treats.  Locally sourced ingredients inspire flavour-filled dinners as you drift between conversation, quiet contemplation, and the simple pleasure of watching the wilderness unfold before you.
