Jungle Lodge
As the name suggests, Jungle Lodge is hidden within lush, tropical vegetation, but its close proximity to the Mayan site of Tikal is what makes this property particularly exciting; just half a mile from Tikal's central plaza you couldn't get much closer.
Highlights
For anyone looking to explore the Mayan site of Tikal then the Jungle Lodge is an obvious choice. Sitting within the national park of Tikal itself, this lodge is perfect for anyone wishing to escape the crowds and see the ruins at sunrise or sunset.
Just half a mile from the entrance, Jungle Lodge is conveniently located so you can spend less time travelling and more time exploring. The hotel is surrounded by exuberant tropical fauna and an abundance of wildlife, making it a must for anyone who loves birdwatching or being amongst nature. Watch colourful macaws and mischievous monkeys from your room and listen to their unique sounds both day and night; there really is nothing like it. There is also a temple shaped swimming pool which is ideal for cooling off in the middle of the day and basking in the nature that surrounds you.
Despite being in the middle of a jungle, the rooms are modern, spacious and come with a private bathroom. Hot water is available but is limited in supply - not to worry though, in the heat and humidity of the jungle, a hot shower is certainly not a necessity. There is no air-conditioning, although the ceiling fan ensures rooms are well ventilated, but a stay here is really all about connecting with nature and going back to basics.
The true highlight of Jungle lodge is the location in Tikal National Park. You can walk to Tikal and it is popular to visit the temples at sunrise and sunset. A 45 minute drive down a dirt track will take you to theuax Mayan ruins of Uaxacton. During your stay, keep your eyes peeled for Toucans, Agoutis and families of coatimundis, a rather cute-looking, rusty brown, raccoon-like creature.
