Why everyone needs a wellness reset – and where to find it
Annie Miller, Senior UK Marketing Manager, reflects on her time at Santani, Sri Lanka, uncovering why even the healthiest among us need a deeper mind‑body reset.

I went to Santani Wellness in Kandy, Sri Lanka, thinking I was already a pretty healthy person. I exercise, I eat well, I function just about fine. What I didn’t realise was how much my entire system, body, mind, and energy, was quietly asking for a reset.
Why Santani?
From the moment I arrived, Santani felt different to anywhere I’ve been before. There’s a strong, grounding ethos that runs through everything they do. Living in harmony with nature, honouring ancient wisdom, you can focus entirely on yourself. Nothing feels pretentious or performative. Guests walk around the grounds in comfortable clothes or spa robes. Each detail is intentional, designed to support healing, presence, and balance.
The days unfold with a balance between structure and freedom. Optional daily activities like yoga, meditation, and nature walks are offered, but nothing ever feels forced. You’re encouraged to listen to your body, your mind, your energy.
Every detail is carefully curated behind the scenes. The best part for me was being able to disconnect from responsibility. The decision fatigue we face back home, the daily pressures of life, our responsibilities towards others, just melt away here as you’re cared for.
The highlights
My first morning was a true pinch me moment. Waking up in the mountains, in my little cabin, to the distant sound of chanting monks, monkeys calling to one another, and birds moving through the trees felt surreal. I watched the cloudy mist roll slowly over the lush green mountains, content and cosy in such epic surroundings. It was the kind of wake-up call that clears your mind before you’ve even left your bed.
The Ayurvedic treatments were not just relaxing, but genuinely therapeutic. A 90-minute treatment each day was included in my five day Bliss package, which was undoubtedly the highlight of each day. The treatment plan was personalised by their doctor to suit my needs. She taught me about my energy balance and I felt the shifts day by day, treatment by treatment.
And the food. Honestly, 10/10. Even though everything is incredibly healthy, there’s absolutely no compromise on flavour and each meal is planned to your diet specifications, based on your doctor consultation. Don’t skip the Sri Lankan breakfast - I still think about it.
Back to nature
One of my favourite moments came during a guided hike through the surrounding landscape. Very hot from the walk, I got to jump into the cool river and go for a swim. One of those simple experiences that stays with you long after it’s over. It perfectly captured what Santani is about. Reconnecting with the natural rhythms of your body and the earth.
My naturalist guide, Sandun, was so much fun, stopping to point out beautiful tropical birds I wouldn’t have spotted myself, explaining all about the different herbs and spices in the area and giving insights into the local people’s lives. Though you’re secluded up in the mountains, you feel like you’re really experiencing Sri Lanka.
Who is it for?
What struck me was how Santani truly is for everyone.
Guests of all ages were there. Honeymooners, retirees, a pregnant woman, people who seemed totally well, and those arriving in genuine need of care and restoration. No one is treated the same, yet everyone is held with the same level of thoughtfulness.
The programs are adapted to where you are in life and in health, physical and mental, which creates a feeling of deep safety and trust.
Santani is also perfect for solo travellers. You can fully lean into your ‘me time’ without ever feeling lonely. And if you feel like connecting, it happens organically. During activities or over meals in the stunning glass-walled restaurant, where conversations flow easily among like-minded guests. During my stay, I heard that guests who arrive as strangers often plan their next visit together.
Would I go back?
This is not a once in a lifetime experience – wellness isn’t a one-time thing. I left Santani feeling renewed in a way I didn’t know I needed. Clearer mentally, fitter physically, and more joyful. It’s a comfort to know that should I need it again one day, Santani is there waiting for me. Until then, I’ll be telling all my friends to book a stay at Santani ASAP and thank me later.
