Description
Your guide will be a mountaineer who has climbed Everest, and his stories and anecdotes will be of constant interest as you enter the Everest Region.
Every Everest summit expedition follows the same path – with the flight into the town of Lukla and the gradual walk up towards Everest Base Camp. You will stay in the most comfortable lodges, the best on offer in the Khumbu region. Once you are higher up, the lodges will become more simple, but our staff will ensure you get extra special treatment.
Your experience in the Everest region will begin in Lukla, you will land at the highest airstrip for commercial airlines in the world (2,868m). You will be met by your guide and your sherpas who will look after you until you depart at the end of the trek. Your first night is spent in Phakding, about a 5-hour walk from Lukla. The first part of the trek is fairly gradual, with countless guesthouses and convenient resting places.
The steepest part of the trek comes with the walk to Namche Bazaar (3,445m) which will take 3-4 hours. The town itself is awash with life, markets and people. Every Saturday there is an interesting market in the town where the local sherpas bring their vegetables, yaks products and other goods to sell in the town, it all makes for a highly interesting experience. It also boasts bakeries, shops and even a pub which has a pool table (even though Namche is a week from the nearest road). We suggest two days in Namche to help with the acclimatisation.
The next day will take you to Tashingna (3,360m) which is located only two hours from Namche. The village of Thangboche (3,873m) will offer the best view of Everest you will encounter. It has a delightful Buddhist monastery which you can visit on the way to Pangboche (3,985m).
You will now be noticing you are moving above the tree-line and the terrain becomes far more rugged. You continue to Pheriche (4,240m) where you will have two nights aiding your acclimatisation including a day walk to the foot of Ama Dablam.
Next, continue your walk to Lobuche (4,910m), along a route that offers some of regions most spectacular views.
After a night here you trek to Gorakshep (5,160m) which is right below Kala Pathar (5545m) which you will climb in the afternoon before returning to the lodge. The views of Everest from the top are stunning.
The next day you will walk to Everest Base Camp (5,300m) before returning to Lobuche to pick up your private helicopter to take you back to Kathmandu. This saves you a good 5 days walking back along a path you have already walked, and instead offer an experience that is second to none. You will rise up in your helicopter seeing the world's highest mountains all around you. You can even trace the route you came, and be back in Kathmandu for lunch.
