From eating sun-ripened mango in Rajasthan, to snorkelling in Mauritius or cruising down the Nile in Egypt, there’s a rich choice of things to do and places to see in October. Just as the trees in Japan produce spectacular blossom in March, now is the time to catch the multi-coloured wash of Autumn leaves that reveals itself so exquisitely in this diverse country. You could head to Arabia – perhaps to Dubai’s extraordinary desert metropolis – or Morocco to explore the souks and bazaars. In East Africa the annual Great Migration is still taking place, and in Mozambique it’s a good time to spot humpback whales and go diving in the corals. The islands of the Indian Ocean and the South Pacific also lure many sun-seekers around this time. In Mexico, they’re celebrating the ‘Day of the Dead’ in remembrance of those living in a different world. This colourful festival takes place in late October and early November.
