Description

With rugged mountains, wild bushlands and stunning deserted beaches, just waiting to be explored, Tasmania is arguably one of Australia’s best kept secrets. This magical island is also inhabited by some amazing indigenous flora and fauna, including the shy nocturnal Quoll, the elusive Platypus and the iconic Tasmanian Devil. This itinerary is designed to show off Tasmania’s beauty, diversity and undeniable purity, all from the comfort of some of Australia’s most unique and luxurious properties. Stunning local produce and exceptional Tasmanian wines will be a theme throughout your trip, combined with fresh air, crystal clear waters and the most spectacular scenery.

Begin your adventure in the capital city Hobart, with a stay at the Islington. This stunning luxury guesthouse has a really homely feel, with sweeping views of the majestic Mount Wellington from the windows. The Islington is perfectly located to explore Hobart, take a visit to the historic Port Arthur to learn about Tasmania’s former penal colonies and its colonial past, stroll through the Salamanca Markets to pick up some unique mementoes or simply relax by the harbour and enjoy some delicious seafood, straight from the Tasman Sea.

From Hobart, continue to the mountainous centre of the island to stay at Cradle Mountain Lodge. During your stay here, you will call a luxurious timber cabin your home, complete with cosy corners, roaring fires and amazing views of your wilderness surrounds. Whilst in the area, make sure you visit the Tasmanian Devil Sanctuary to meet some of Tasmania’s most famous (or infamous) residents or take a trek around Cradle Mountain. There are more leisurely routes alongside some more challenging full day hikes for the more adventurous.

Following your time up in the highlands, descend to Red Feather Inn just outside Launceston in the northeast of the island. Set beside the Tamar River, Launceston is a great place to spend a few days exploring the exceptional local wineries. Your stay here is at Red Feather Inn, a relaxed but utterly luxurious guesthouse just a short drive from central Launceston. Try your hand at a cooking class and truly appreciate the superb local produce and make sure you take the time to venture out with Craig Williams of Pepperbush Adventures for a night on ‘Quoll Patrol’. A night amidst some of Tasmania’s nocturnal creatures is not to be missed!

Finally, head down to the Freycinet Peninsula for the final element to your taste of Tasmania. Saffire is the newest addition to the luxury scene in Tasmania and is an exercise in pure class. Each suite is an eclectic mix between local artefacts and modern luxury and your stay here will be the ultimate finale to an amazing adventure. Spend your days kayaking on the crystal clear waters of Great Oyster Bay, exploring the private, deserted beaches and outlying islands, walk up to the viewpoint and look over Wineglass Bay or simply relax in the amazing Spa.
