Lima and the Desert Coast

Lima is an ancient Spanish colonial city, which was named the City of Kings by its founder Francisco Pizarro in 1535. It’s a bustling dwelling that encompasses more than 10,000 years of history. An optional tour can be made of the city, taking in the colonial centre, and some of the main sights. The Inca Gold Museum is also well worth a visit. To the south of Lima lie the extraordinary Nazca Lines etched into the desert and the mini-Galapagos of the Ballestas Islands reached from Paracas, while north of the city are ancient Moche pyramids older than those in Egypt, and spectacular monuments such as Sipan and Chan-Chan. In the far north of the country are the Pacific beaches and surf breaks of Mancora.
