Description

Hidden Valley Inn is a retreat from the world, set in the gorgeous Mountain Pine Ridge district in Belize's Maya Highlands. The lodge has 12 extremely comfortable surrounding the central lodge with its bar, restaurant, comfortable living room-cum-library and a lovely swimming pool.

The lodge has some 90 miles of trails through the extensive estate, encompassing some of the most unspoilt pine forest and jungle gorges in the country. Around a dozen waterfalls, including the 800-foot King Vulture Falls, can be reached, and the bird watching here is superb, with rare species such as the Orange-breasted Falcon a notable sighting. Even the uninitiated will not fail to be impressed by the colourful hummingbirds and tanagers that are regularly seen. Mountain bikes are also a great way to explore this diverse ecosystem.

There are three yoga platforms that are ideal spots for some peaceful meditation and other activities such as horse riding, canoeing and excursions further afield to the Mayan site of Caracol or the many cave systems in the area can all easily be arranged.

Accommodation

The accommodation at Hidden Valley Inn is made up of 12 cottages, of which 10 are Luxury Suites and 2 are Deluxe Suites. The suites are decorated in earthy tones, with cool tiled floors, hand crafted mahogany furniture and outside patios. The Deluxe Suites have their own outside waterfall, rock shower and claw foot bath and a large double hammock.

Childcare

Children are welcomed at Hidden Valley Inn. The two Deluxe Suites can be opened up, making ideal accommodation for a family. Children are sure to enjoy the adventurous nature of a stay in the forest, with the chance to play by the pool, hike nature trails, swim in waterfalls, canoe through caves and look out for local wildlife.

Facilities

The Main House at Hidden Valley Inn is home to three cosy lounges and a bar, perfect for relaxing with a book, sharing conversation with fellow guests or sipping on a cocktail by the open fire. There is also a dining area serving delicious a la carte cuisine featuring both local and continental dishes from a menu that changes daily. Outside is a lovely swimming pool and a hot tub, a great spot to chill out after some soft adventure in the forest.

Activities

Hidden Valley Inn is set on a 7200 acre private reserve with access to over 90 miles of hiking and mountain biking rails and many secluded pools and waterfalls. Some of the waterfalls are ideal for swimming and some can even be reserved exclusively for the day. Other activities on offer include yoga, canoeing, riding through the jungle with a local Mayan guide, exploring mystical caves and visiting the ancient Mayan sites of Caracol and Xunantunich

When to travel

Belize's climate is marked by two distinct seasons, the rainy season (June to November) and the dry season (December to May). The coldest month is January and the warmest temperatures are in May.

The busier time of the year for travellers to Belize is November to May, which are the winter months of the Northern Hemisphere. It is possible to visit out-side of these months but the rainy season in the Forest Highlands can be rather wet.

Hidden Valley Inn is located high in the Mountain Pine Ridge in the Cayo District of Belize, Central America. This secluded lodge is situated amidst 7200 acres of private reserve.

How to get there

12 hour international flight (via Miami) to Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport in Belize City. The Lodge is reachable by a 30 minute charter flight from Belize City to the private airstrip on the property. The airstrip is only 15 minutes away from the Inn. Alternatively its a 2.5 hour drive from Belize City.
