Description

Laluna is small, stylish hotel set on a gorgeous wild beach in the south west corner of Grenada. As cosmopolitan as it is chic, Laluna is truly elegant yet deliciously informal. Everything about this tropical retreat of individual cottages echoes the qualities that are synonymous with graceful, romantic Caribbean life - discreet, unhurried and unobtrusive.

The hotel’s simply furnished 16 cottages are a fusion of Asian elements with West Indian detail, each with its own plunge pool and veranda. Cottages are equipped with beautiful four-poster Balinese king size beds with Italian linen sheets and open style bathrooms. Amenities include air conditioning, ceiling fan, flat screen TV and cable, ipod docking stations, DVD player (only in select rooms), wireless internet connection, minibar with complimentary tea and coffee station and walk-in closet with electronic safe.

The main clubhouse, featuring a high-peaked, authentically thatched roof, consists of various low-lying stone and wooden structures and Indonesian style sofas. Open and airy, it overlooks the resort’s fresh water pool and private beach. There is a restaurant serving authentic Italian cuisine and boasts a decent wine cellar.

Laluna also has a fabulous Wellness Centre, offering health retreats and spa services. It is known as The Sanctuary and comprises of an organic garden, an Asian spa and yoga pavilion. Activities at the resort include snorkelling, sailing, kayaking, cycling, fishing, tennis, golf, scuba diving, hiking and island tours can also be arranged.

When to travel

Grenada maintains balmy tropical temperatures almost all year long, with an average hovering around 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Grenada's rainy season lasts from June to November, when rain falls an average of about 22 days per month. Grenada's dry season falls between November and May, which is also the high tourism season in the Caribbean.

If a quieter, more peaceful vacation is in your sights, then avoid visiting during popular festivities, like the annual drum festival at Tivoli. If you're in search of a more up-beat environment, Carnival is one of the biggest and most popular events in the Caribbean. In Grenada, Carnival is celebrated on the second week of August.
