Rail and cruise
Make the journey part of the adventure itself, with a luxury cruise or train ride incorporated into your holiday. Often, the best way to see a country’s true colours is to travel its waterways, cruise its coastline, or wind through its ever-changing countryside on a fast train.
We can craft an adventure that includes this experience, where you travel in luxury whilst simultaneously enjoying the sights and sounds of a corner of the world you’ve not yet explored. We’ve included a few suggestions below, but it’s only the start of what we have to offer. Each of these can be tailored to your requirements – or we can suggest something entirely different. It’s up to you. For your own, completely bespoke rail or cruise adventure, contact our travel specialists.
Idea 01: Ecuador and Galapagos
Start your adventure in Ecuador for volcanoes, Inca ruins, and the vibrant city of Quito which is well worth a visit before you fly to the Galapagos Islands for a luxury cruise. Here you can explore the shores where you can meet the extraordinarily tame Galapagos tortoises, and walk through colonies of marine iguanas and penguins. From the boat you might spot whales and dolphins too.
Idea 02: Japan by Bullet Train
Japan’s incredible cities are linked by the Shinkansen, the Bullet Train, travelling up to 190miles per hour. Start in buzzing Tokyo, the city that never sleeps, before boarding the bullet train to Kyoto, Japan’s cultural centre, to explore the hundreds of Shinto and Buddhist shrines and temples, and the fascinating Geisha district. Next stop on the train is Hakone National Park, a volcanic valley renowned for its hot springs and gorgeous spas.
Idea 03: Northern India by Express
The Maharajas’ Express is India’s newest luxury train and visits some of the country’s most iconic sights. As well as enjoying a luxurious cabin and wonderful food, the guided excursions enable you to see something new each day - ideal for those with a long wish list, but limited time. There’s a range of itineraries to choose from where you can absorb the diversity and wonder of Northern India, while enjoying wonderful service from turban-clad waiters, there to tend to after your every whim and desire.
Idea 04: The Nile on The Oberoi Zahra
The Oberoi Zahra is the most luxurious ship operating on the Nile. During a 7-night cruise you can take in the wonderful sights on land before returning to deck for a swim in the pool. On board you can also enjoy being pampered like a Pharaoh in the spa and therapy rooms, followed by al fresco cocktails as the sun goes down past the Nile's riverbanks.
Idea 05: Thailand and Malaysia by train
After exploring the rice paddies and jungle of Chiang Mai, and perhaps a trek to the elephant camp during your stay here, hop on board the Eastern & Oriental Express and watch the world go by, relax in your own private cabin or sip a cocktail at one of the bars. During the journey you can jump off and explore the villages and towns at various stops, before returning for the delicious food served on the train. On arrival in Singapore you could fly to Langkawi for some tropical jungle and beach paradise action before home.
