What's cool in Val d'Isère
1. Try dinner in an igloo at the top of the Bellevarde mountain. Ascent is by helicopter or skidoo. This extraordinary restaurant is complete with snow tables and chandeliers making a stunning setting providing an unforgettable dining experience. Guests can catch skidoos back down or be guided by torch on ski, or even take the luxurious return by helicoptered.
2. Apres ski at the Folie Douce is not to be missed. The live bands play on the large open-air terrace from 3pm, people dance on the tables all afternoon and a party atmosphere is lively to say the least.
3. Go Ice Karting. Drive an Audi or a go kart round the specially constructed Ice track. This is an exciting and thrilling activity, which tests your driving skills to their limits. If you consider yourself the next Lewis Hamilton this is for you!
4. Le Fornet is a little village just outside Val d’Isere, which has some of the best off-piste skiing through beautiful snow-covered trees. Top this off with a lunch at the Signal or Edelweiss and you will have experienced a day in Val d'Isere at its finest.
5. Take the 'Up and Over’. This chairlift connects the Le Fornet to Le Solaise ski area. It's not your ordinary ride, it takes you to the top of the peak and steeply down the other side making your tummy flip.
6. Take Patisserie Classes at the famous Chevallot bakery, where different baking techniques will be covered followed by a tasting session. They also happen to make the best Croque Monsieurs, so don’t miss out!
7. The Monday street market in the old town is one of our highlights. The stalls sell local food produce from the Savoie region, ski wear and gifts including locally designed items such as hats, gloves, and jewellery.
8. Le Piste Perdu – this is an astonishing off-piste run in the lost valley, this run is on a riverbed that drops off the side of Vert. After a decent snowfall it is manageable for most skiers, although you have to use the ropes that are attached to the rocks to drop down at certain points. It makes our pick as it cuts through some of the most magical countryside and can be tackled by all the family.
9. Oxygen New sports centre is located at the foot of the legendary Bellevarde Face and includes swimming pool, leisure pool, climbing area, squash courts, gym, and a wellness zone with sauna, steam bath, spa, hydro-massage. Providing perfect facilities for a days break from the slopes.
10. The Blue Note bar just off the snow square makes incredible liqueur hot chocolates and free après snacks. Located in downtown Val this bar is atmospheric and friendly and lucky to be one of the more hidden bars.
