Description
Venezuela, one of the most beautiful countries in South America, is still largely unspoilt by tourism and perfect for off-the-beaten-track travel. Begin your journey in Caracas before flying to the famous ‘Lost World’ of Canaima National Park. Explore the extensive Gran Sabana with its towering primeval rock formations, dramatic waterfalls and lagoons. It is easy to imagine dinosaurs roaming around this spectacular ‘Jurassic Park’ landscape. From Waku Lodge, discover the surrounding forest on foot or by canoe and take a flight over the breathtaking Angel Falls, the world’s highest waterfall.
End your journey relaxing at the laid-back island paradise of Los Roques, 30 minutes off the coast of Venezuela in the turquoise Caribbean. The islands are excellent for diving, snorkelling, sailing, bone fishing and windsurfing.
Venezuela is not a country that should be visited if you are looking for luxurious hotels and a high level of service however it is a greatly rewarding destination for those looking to get off the beaten track and in terms of the natural highlights on offer such as the Angel Falls and the stunning Los Roques beaches.

When to travel
Temperatures are very warm and do not vary considerably throughout the year in Venezuela although there is a distinct wet season from June to October and dry season from November to May. June to November is when Angel Falls are at their fullest although it can be humid but it is the best time to do a boat trip to the base of the falls as the water levels are high enough. Los Roques is an all year round destination.
