An Indian Summer: Shakti Ladakh is recommended for
Honeymoon2Adventure2Off the beaten track2Family1

Description

The six Shakti village houses are located in small rural villages. They have been carefully renovated to offer the best possible comfort, whilst retaining an element of authenticity that can only come by getting away from the main tourist areas such as Leh. They all have wonderful staff, tasty local food and are based on a fully inclusive basis so that everything (even alcohol) is included. The village houses act as a base to explore Ladakh, and journeys between them go on foot, river raft and by vehicles stopping at little visited places where you are often the only visitor. Shakti Ladakh offer a permanent local escort who travels with you and knows the customs of the villages intimately. By getting into the more remote areas, you make the most of this truly wonderful Himalayan outpost.

The best time to visit Ladakh is the summer months from the end of May to October. Ladakh is in the rainshadow of the monsoon, and as such days are sunny and bright making the summer the perfect time to visit. Because of this, Ladakh is like a high altitude desert, juxtaposed against lush green paddy fields hugging the mighty river valleys.

Everything you do in Ladakh is totally flexible and done at your pace ensuring your experience of this region is suitably exhilarating. You begin acclimatising slowly at Stok Village, sipping tea on your roof terrace and looking at the incredible views. There are so many diverse things on offer such as exploring the villages with a local headman, visiting monasteries for morning prayers, learning to cook Ladakhi food, meeting a Buddhist monk, rafting up the Indus or just sitting back and letting Ladakh soak into your senses.

For those wanting a longer stay in Ladakh, we recommend extending your time by going on the Shayok River Journey which heads into the totally unspoilt Nubra Valley. Shakti Ladakh can set up exclusive riverside camps using dome tents, yet providing their fantastic service and food. You will pass some of the most dramatic Himalayan vistas possible, stopping off for picnic lunches along the way. The drive back takes you on the highest road in the world Kardungla at 5385m.
