Description

Turneffe Island Resort, located on Caye Bokel on the world’s second longest barrier reef, is a mecca for divers and snorkellers, with over 70 dive sites within minutes of the lodge including the infamous Great Blue Hole. There are also superb opportunities to visit nearby wildlife-rich islands, go catch-and-release fishing or relax on the dazzling white beaches.

The resort itself is reached by boat from Belize City (approximately 90 minutes) and is elegantly rustic with a unique Hemingway-esque feel. It has been constructed from native timbers and is sustainably managed. The twenty cabanas are light and spacious and make full use of the natural breezes, and have an outside screened balcony with wicker chairs ideal for relaxing. Service is very friendly and the food is excellent; expect delicious local specialities and on Friday nights one can enjoy a typical Belizean barbeque served from the resort's patio. There is also a spa offering a range of massages, scrubs and facials and a stunning swimming pool, from where you can enjoy the amazing sunsets whilst sipping a refreshing Caribbean rum punch.

When to travel

Caye, like most of Belize, has a sub-tropical climate. Belize's climate is marked by two distinct seasons, the rainy season (June to November) and the dry season (December to May). The coldest month is January and the warmest temperatures are in May. Summers in San Pedro Town and the other Cayes strung out along the Barrier Reef are much milder than on the Belizean mainland, due to the proximity to the Sea and the cooling effects of the easterly trade winds and cloud cover which hold temperatures in the high 20's/ low 30's.

The busier time of the year for travellers to Belize is November to May, which are the winter months of the Northern Hemisphere. Still, many visitors prefer the more quiet days of the summer months from June to October for their vacation in Belize.
