Description

The 66 villas of The Residence Zanzibar are located close to the village of Kizimkazi, famous for its dolphin safaris, (20 minutes by car). Set among 32 hectares of tropical gardens, each of its stand-alone villas is beautifully appointed, and features all modern amenities, in-door and out-door showers, as well as a private swimming pool and deck. All 66 villas are luxuriously appointed with contemporary, stylish furniture reminding guests of the island’s African and Omani heritage. This luxurious all-villa resort is the only member of The Leading Hotels of the World in Tanzania.

The Spa has six treatment pavilions, nestled amongst 2 hectares of beautiful gardens. Each luxuriously appointed pavilion leads directly onto a private garden with outdoor shower, bath tub and relaxation area. The Residence Zanzibar Spa is the first hotel spa in the world to provide the Ohashiatsu concept. More than a massage, this energy-based protocol created by Mr Wataru Ohashi combines the use of acupressure points, exercise and an Oriental diagnosis to offer relaxation in a completely beneficial and holistic way. In a luxurious and relaxing pavilion, guests can experience hairdresser services. They can also benefit from high performing treatments at the Carita Hair Spa to obtain visible results thanks to Carita‘s amazing product innovations and dream formulas.

Accommodation

All 66 villas are luxuriously appointed with, contemporary, stylish furniture reminiscent of the island’s African and Omani heritage. Every villa features satellite TV, CD/DVD player, direct dial telephone, hairdryer, bath robes, mosquito nets, personal safe, tea and coffee making facilities, broadband internet access, air-conditioning and overhead fans.

Childcare

The Residence offers a children club with daily activities for guests from 4 - 12 years, free of charge open daily 9.00am- 5.00pm. Trained staff will entertain the children and introduce them to the wonders that Zanzibar and the local community have to offer. Babysitting can also be arranged for an extra charge.

Facilities

As well as each villa having a private pool there is also a huge communal swimming pool (41 m x 14m). Guests have use of the DVD library, bicycles for each villa and golf buggy transport. There is also a boutique on site. All villas have the use of in-villa dining alternatively there are three restaurants to chose from and three different bars.

Activities

The following complimentary watersports, landsports and activities are available from The Residence:

tennis court, bicycles, fitness centre, kayaks, pedal boats, HobieCat sailing and snorkelling. Other activities can be organised at an additional charge such as kite surfing, deep-sea fishing, a dolphin safari, dhow cruises and scuba diving.

Services

Each villa has the use of a private butler service, unpacking and packing service, in-villa complimentary amenities include fresh fruits, bottled water, chocolates, cookies and a choice of herbal teas. Complimentary sorbets, iced water and fruit skewers are offered on the beach. The hotel offers 24-hour in-villa dining.

When to travel

Situated only 6° south of the equator, Zanzibar enjoys ideal holiday weather. Temperatures average between 24°C and 27°C throughout the year with 7-9 hours of sunshine per day.

There are 2 rainy seasons: Acute, brief showers, lasting about an hour in the morning occur for a couple of weeks during November. The rains last slightly longer in April and May, but even then it does not rain every day. These rains replenish the Island and are often referred to as the “Green Season”.

Zanzibar and the coast, Tanzania

The Residence Zanzibar is set in isolated splendour on the South West coast of the island, on 32 hectares of pristine land. Located just 55 minutes from the capital Stone Town, The Residence Zanzibar lies on a mile-long powdery white sand beach, flanked by coconut palm trees and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. The village of Kizimkazi, famous for its dolphin Safaris, is just 20 minutes away.

How to get there

The easiest and most direct way to reach Zanzibar is to fly via Dar es Salaam, on Tanzania's coast (9-hour 30-minute international flight). The connecting flight from Dar es Salaam to Stonetown Airport on Zanzibar take 20 minutes. The Residence Zanzibar is located just a 55-minute transfer from the airport.
