Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
From mid May through to early August the days are warm and clear but the night time temperatures can drop below freezing. September through to May is generally hot in the day and warm at night, Hwange sees rain from late November to April.
The best time for game viewing is from August to early November, water is scarce, the bush has died back and game congregates around the pumped waterholes. Birdlife is prolific during the rainy season, and although the game has dispersed due to readily available surface water, this is still a great time to experience Hwange as the National Park hums with life.

Days 1-4: Victoria Falls - the Zim side
Arrive into Victoria Falls where you will spend your first three nights. The town of Victoria Falls is a short walk from the cascading waters of this spectacular natural wonder, as well as a plethora of interesting shops and restaurants. Although a visit to the Falls is certainly a must there is also an array of other activities to entertain your family. Have a delicious tea on the terrace at The Victoria Falls Hotel with the spray from the Falls in the distance. Take an exhilarating full day white water rafting down the Batoka Gorge, go on the gorge swing or bungee jump of The Victoria Falls Bridge. It is also fantastic to get a birds eye view of the falls from a helicopter or microlight.

Days 4-7: Hwange National Park
You will fly onto Hwange National Park to continue your safari adventure in the largest reserve in Zimbabwe. Again the park is host to a huge variety of mammals and birds and offers some remarkable game viewing experiences. Unlike Mana Pools with its waterways and lakes, Hwange is home to open savannahs so will offer you a different experience entirely. Spend three nights exploring the region on 4x4 game drives or get up close to the smaller fauna and flora of Zimbabwe on walking safaris with your specialist guide.
Accommodation: Somalisa Expeditions (3 nights)

Days 7-10: Mana Pools National Park
Fly by light aircraft to the stunning Mana Pools National Park. This game rich park is a region of the lower Zambezi River where the flood plains expand to form huge bodies of water each rainy season, making it only accessible during the dryer parts of the year. This reliable water source attracts many large animals making it a renowned game viewing region. The Park is home to high densities of wildlife such as lions, wild dog, hyena, leopard, hippos, crocodiles and vast numbers of elephant. Spend your days on 4x4 game drives in search of the parks resident wildlife or, if you are feeling adventurous, canoe down the winding Zambezi in search of hippo and an array of impressive bird life.
