Due to temperatures and precipitation, Delhi and much of northern India can be an extreme place to visit during certain months of the year. The hottest months of the year are May and June, during which time temperatures can get up to 40°C. The coldest months are from December until February whilst the monsoon season is from the end of May through to August. During this time although the the temperature cools, the humidity is very high, and rainstorms are frequent. It is not advised to visit during these months. The best season to visit is between October and March when the weather is pleasant and very cool, making it great for sightseeing.
This itinerary provides a brilliant journey through Rajasthan and Northern India, allowing you to experience the beautiful cities of Delhi, Varanasi, Agra, Jaipur and Udaipur. Providing an in-depth tour of one of India’s most romantic and emotive regions, you’ll be able to delve deep into the culture and history of the area accompanied by your private driver and guide throughout.
Starting in Delhi, you’ll have two nights in the city to start the adventure. Delhi is a city constantly on the move, reflecting India itself as an ever changing cultural and economic landscape. With your private guide, explore the colonial buildings of New Delhi and the Red Fort and Jama Masjid Mosque of Old Delhi all the while being surrounded by vibrant markets of flowers, jewellery and spices.
From Delhi you will head next to Varanasi which you will reach after a short internal flight of just under two hours. Set on the banks of the river Ganges, Varanasi has long been a place of pilgrimage with ceremonial offerings, lighting of funeral priers and the washing away of sins all daily occurrences on the river’s edge. Varanasi is one of the most evocative and vibrant places in the world and you could just sit back and watch the world pass you by here with a steady hum of people going about their daily and colourful lives. With your private guide, over your two nights in Varanasi, you’ll explore the Ganges by boat on morning and evening cruises, the best way to see the city. Alongside we have also included a walking tour of the Varanasi Ghats along the river front and the chance to take part in an Aarti Ceremony at Assi Ghat.
Next on the adventure from Varanasi you’ll fly back to Delhi and from here drive to Agra, the home of the magnificent Taj Mahal. On arrival in Agra with your private guide you’ll get to visit the impressive Agra Fort and the Mughal mausoleum of Itimad ud Daulah. The following morning at sunrise, you’ll have the chance to visit the Taj Mahal when the light is at its most beautiful. As the ultimate testament to love, on seeing the monument first hand it’s not hard to see why it is one of the world’s most famous masterpieces.
After one night in Agra, it is then on to Jaipur by car which will take just over four hours. As the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur lives up to its royal prestige, full of beautiful palaces, gardens and lavish pavilions. Known as the Pink City, owing to the colour of all of its buildings specially swathed in honour of the Prince of Wales’ visit, it is a magical city to explore. With your private guide you’ll be able to explore the impressive Amber Fort and surrounding village, dipping into rural Rajasthan, as well as the beautiful city palace, observatory and palace of winds.
From Jaipur you will venture by car into the beautiful surrounding countryside of Rajasthan to Shahpura where you will have two nights to completely relax and unwind. With beautiful lakes and small local villages to explore this is an ideal stopover between Jaipur and Udaipur and a great opportunity to experience the beauty of rural Rajasthan.
For your final stop in India, you will drive on to Udaipur where you will spend the next three nights. Udaipur is one of, if not the, most impressive of cities in Rajasthan. Surrounded by the Aravalli Hills, overlooking Lake Pichola the city has a stunning location and boasts one of the most beautiful and ornate palaces in India. With your private guide you’ll learn the wonderful history Udaipur's City Palace alongside the Crystal Gallery and Garden of Maids. Old Udaipur is a lattice work of side streets full of markets stalls, intricate havelis and old mansions and your guide will lead you through the maze on a walking tour with a stop in at Jagdish Temple. Of course, no trip to Udaipur would be complete without a boat ride along the lake, a perfect end to an amazing adventure through Northern India.
Visit the small village of Kachpura, a rural settlement, with a stunning backdrop of the Taj Mahal.
The youth from the community, who have been trained up as tour guides, take you through the village allowing you to real get a feel of village life.
The Taj Mahal at sunrise is often on many people's ultimate wish lists and it never disappoints. Seeing the sun rise over this amazing monument makes you sit back in awe as Taj's colour slowly changes as the sun shimmers against it.
The Varanasi Ganga aarti takes place every sunset at the holy Dasaswamedh Ghat, near Kashi Vishwanath Temple. A sight to behold when visiting Varanasi, we can reserve seats for you if you would like to watch it close up.
Explore New Delhi, the area that Britain constructed between 1911 and 1931 as their new Imperial capital in India. Think of leafy, wide avenues, and white-washed bungalows. See the vast Rajpath, the Parliaments Buildings and Humayun's Tomb.
It is in Varanasi where pilgrims perform ritual ablutions. There are nearly 100 ghats, steps leading to the banks of River Ganges. The ghats are an integral compliment to the concept of divinity represented in physical and supernatural elements.
Amber Fort, the ancient Rajput capital is located on a hill 11km / 7 miles north of Jaipur. Amber was the capital of the Kachhwaha Rajputs from 1037 until the Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh founded Jaipur in 1727.
