Autumn is New England's most glorious season, though spring and summer are pleasant as well. Weather usually remains warm throughout September, while cooler temperatures in October bring out the colourful foliage. Winter lasts too long for most people's tastes, stretching from December to April. During this period, visitors can expect temperatures below freezing and plenty of snow.

New England is a fantastic destination for families who love the great outdoors. This holiday combines the bustling city of Boston with some of New England’s most stunning scenery and picture perfect traditional villages. Enjoy a host of exhilarating activities on offer such as biking, kayaking, body-boarding, hiking before heading to the peninsula of Cape Cod for some whale watching.

  1. Fly to Boston

  2. Days 1-4: Boston

Fly into Logan International Airport and start your New England family adventure in Boston, a wonderfully exciting city for families: from the original Duck tours on amphibious World War II vehicles to walking the Freedom trail, hiring mini-speedboats to explore the harbour, or joining in the fun at a Boston Red Sox game, there's something for all ages and interests. You will spend three nights in this incredible city exploring Boston’s landmarks, shops, buzzing cafes and restaurants, and we have included an enjoyable family bike tour where you will get to visit the different neighbourhoods and learn about the history and the culture of the city from your knowledgeable guide.

Accommodation: Fairmont Copley Plaza (3 nights)

  3. Days 4-7: Maine

From Boston, pick up your hire car and drive north to Maine, stopping for some sorcery and superstition, ghouls and witches in Salem. Maine conjures up images of sweeping beaches, lighthouses and the freshest seafood. Days can be spent exploring picture postcard harbour villages, kayaking and SUP (stand-up-paddling) at nearby Goose Rocks Beach, biking and hiking around the woods, ending each day comparing notes while toasting s'mores on the bonfire.

    Accommodation: Hidden Pond (3 nights)

  4. Days 7-10: Vermont

From Maine you will take your hire car up to north-central Vermont to the village of Stowe, home to Vermont’s highest peak, Mount Mansfield. Vermont is quintessential rural New England, with pretty historic villages, rolling hills that come alight in the fall, the occasional moose, and family farms with barns that look like oversized Fisher-Price models, the traditional New England village of Stowe is no exception to this. The area hosts a huge variety of outdoorsy activities from hiking through spectacular landscapes, exhilarating downhill biking and kayaking on pristine reservoirs. When not enjoying the variety of out door activities on offer, explore the picture perfect Stowe with its array of independently owned restaurants and shops.

Accommodation: Topnotch Resort & Spa (3 nights)

  5. Days 10-14: Cape Cod

From Vermont it takes about four and a half hours along the coastal road past beautiful weathered shingled cottages and endless Atlantic beaches to the peninsula of Cape Cod, where better to end an action-packed family holiday than with some downtime on the beach. Spend your days exploring quaint villages, long stretches of sandy beaches, and sample delicious sea food in one of Cape Cod’s renowned seafood shacks. To end your family holiday on a high we have included a whale watching boat trip, with opportunities to see humpbacks, finbacks and minkes, a truly memorable experience.

Accommodation: Wequassett Resort and Golf Club (4 nights)
