Alaska is best visited throughout its summer months of May to September, with peak season running from June to August. This is when the temperatures are at their warmest and daylight hours are at their longest. Most of the lodges are open from early June until mid-September. Vancouver is best visited from June until September, with temperatures averaging 20°C.

Itinerary
This simple self-drive holiday makes for the perfect introduction to North America's wilderness state, start in the vibrant waterfront city of Vancouver in Canada, before going onto Alaska to explore Denali National Park.

Days 1-4: Vancouver
The outdoorsy city of Vancouver is the perfect place to begin your journey and is an easy jumping off point for those wishing to connect with the wildlife and wonders of the vast state of Alaska. Spend three nights in this welcoming waterfront city, take a guided tour of the food market on Granville Island, cycle around scenic Stanley Park and enjoy some incredible whale watching opportunities viewing orcas and humpback whales.

Days 4-5: Fairbanks, Alaska
From here you will fly approximately five hours to Fairbanks in Alaska, the gateway to the breathtaking landscapes and wildlife viewing of Denali National Park where you will begin your wilderness adventure the following day. Pick up your hire car and stay for one night at the comfortable Pikes Waterfront Lodge which is perched right on the Chena River.

Days 5-8: Denali, Alaska
The next day, depart for the entrance to Denali National Park and the Denali Train Depot (3 hours) for your transfer into the park. Prepare yourselves for some truly spectacular scenery as you board the shared transportation which will take you to Kantishna Roadhouse, your home within the park.
Three nights in the Denali wilderness will afford you innumerable opportunities to admire this snow-capped mountain paradise where you can indulge in bear-viewing, mountain biking, flight-seeing, hiking and yet more wildlife watching, looking out for eagles, caribou, moose and wolves. A number of activities are included in your stay so you can truly make the most of your time here and enjoy everything that Alaska's crown jewels has to offer.
A shared bus will drop you back at your car and you will then continue to drive to Talkeetna, approximately 3 hours from the Denali park entrance.

Days 8-10: Denali and Alaskan Wilderness
Talkeetna is frequently heralded as Alaska's adventure capital and a two-night stay will see you speeding along ziplines, paddling across white water rapids and enjoying the numerous walking trails whilst admiring the views of Mount Denali in the distance.

Days 10-11: Anchorage
After a good night's sleep in your comfortable wooden cabin, embark on the short drive to Anchorage where you will spend one night before connecting with your international flight back home. This itinerary is just a suggestion and can be tailored to meet your requirements; speak to one of our specialists if you would prefer to spend more time exploring Canada first or wish to add on a cruise around Alaska's fjordlands.
