Scenic 17-Mile Drive by Pedal-Power
Pick up a bike in Monterey and follow the Recreation Trail around the Marina. The trail winds along the coast from the Aquarium to Lover’s Point and then a bike lane picks up along the rocky shore area of Pacific Grove’s coastline. This bike lane leads you along the shore to the entrance to 17-Mile Drive, and upon entering Del Monte Forest you can pedal in the bike lane along 17-Mile Drive to The Lodge at Pebble Beach or Bird and Seal Rock. You’ll ride out with the ocean on one side and then return with the ocean on your other side.
The 17-Mile Drive is operated by the Pebble Beach Company, the drive is open from dawn until dusk. There is a toll of $10 for a car, (subject to change) but bicycles are free of charge. Whether you're driving or biking, a self-guided map will be given to you on entry to navigate from landmarks such as Spanish Bay where explorers landed, to Bird Rock with abundant sea lions and seals, to the Lone Cypress that's been perched on the rock for over 250 years.
