Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Zambia has a moderate to sub-tropical climate with three distinct seasons: from November to March is the Emerald, or the rainy season, April to July is Zambia's winter, when the weather is cool and dry, and August to October is summer, when the weather is hot and dry. In terms of game-viewing, the drier months, meaning a higher concentration of game at the permanent water sources, are a superb time to visit. Alternatively come for some superb bird-watching at the end of the rains.

A dazzling Zambia and Malawi honeymoon combination which includes the South Luangwa National Park, a short but sweet stop in Lower Zambezi National Park - both offering exceptional guiding and fabulous game-viewing - before rounding off the trip with some time on the stunning Lake Malawi for watersports galore and some rest and rejuvenation.

  1. Fly to Lusaka

  2. Days 1-4: Lower Zambezi

Your honeymoon starts in the Lower Zambezi National Park- this little park is half the size of Luangwa but holds its own in terms of game viewing; the elephant sightings are exceptional, and lion, leopard and wild dog are often found here. Your night here will be spent on the banks of the mighty Zambezi river where you can enjoy a night drive. Your home for the night is on the confluence of the Chongwe River and the mighty Zambezi - enjoy a night drive and then perhaps a canoe safari and try your hand at fishing.

Accommodation: Sausage Tree Camp (3 nights)

  3. Days 4-7: South Luangwa National Park

Your trip continues as you head to the South Luangwa where you will stay for three nights at Chinzombo in one of their six stunning suites; each with a plunge pool and deck, nestled in the riverine forest by the banks of the mighty Luangwa. Here you will head out on day and night game drives accompanied by one of Chinzombo's superb guides; explore the South Luangwa and find lion, leopard, wild dog, elephant and other plain game. Or you could head out on foot accompanied by a national parks guard; these walking safaris are what South Luangwa is famed for, and they do not disappoint. Your guide will lead you through untrodden paths, and show you all the Valley's secrets, it's a wonderful experience.

For those wishing to explore further, Chinzombo can organize a day's optional helicopter trip to the Muchinga Escarpment. This borders the Luangwa Valley along its western side and is the source of the many tributaries which snake their way through the park, eventually joining the Luangwa River. It's a fascinating spot, quite different to the Valley floor and until now only accessed by a gruelling eight-hour journey through the park. You will take off early and fly up through the park, your guide pointing out the landmarks of the Valley, and will then land in the foothills of the Escarpment; a short walk if you wish, or just relax while your picnic lunch - with champagne if you like - is set up for you. After a relaxed lunch and perhaps another short walk, you'll board the chopper for your flight back to Chinzombo, following the river all the way home.

    Accommodation: Chinzombo (3 nights)

  4. Days 7-12: Likoma Island, Lake Malawi

Your vacation continues as you leave the South Luangwa and Zambia and head over to Malawi where you will spend the next five nights by the crystal-clear freshwaters of Lake Malawi. Here you can enjoy rest and relaxation on a beak break or try your hand at some of the water-based activities. We’ve included activities like snorkeling, kite-surfing, kayaking, and even a sunset cruise on a local dhow, but you could also try your hand at waterskiing and diving if you’re feeling extra adventurous. Your evening will end with a sundowner in hand at a delicious relaxed setting where you will be able to relax and unwind after an exciting safari in Zambia.

    Accommodation: Kaya Mawa (5 nights)
