Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
Zambia has a moderate to sub-tropical climate with three distinct seasons: from November to March is the Emerald, or the rainy season, April to July is Zambia's winter, when the weather is cool and dry, and August to October is summer, when the weather is hot and dry. In terms of game-viewing, the drier months, meaning a higher concentration of game at the permanent water sources, are a superb time to visit. Alternatively come for some superb bird-watching at the end of the rains.

Days 1-4: Victoria Falls - the Zambia side
This superb and luxurious trip starts with a visit to one of Zambia's wonders - the majestic Victoria Falls. Here you will stay at Tangala House, the private house belonging to the owners of Tongabezi. Included is a tour of the Victoria Falls, and a visit to the Livingstone Museum, morning and evening boat cruises, a game drive in Mosi oa Tunya National Park, a canoeing excursion, lunch on a local island and various other activities. Or just choose to relax in the house’s beautiful surroundings.
Accommodation: Tangala House (3 nights)
-
Days 4-7: South Luangwa National Park
Leaving Tangala, travel northwards through Zambia to stay in the pristine and game-rich South Luangwa National Park. Here you will stay at Luangwa Safari House, built by Robin Pope Safaris and nothing short of spectacular. Overlooking a stretch of water where elephants and antelope often congregate, the house has four enormous bedrooms, each en-suite, and comes with a private guide and hostess. Here your every whim is catered to – and you plan your days as you wish. You could choose to start your day with an exciting walk through the park, return for a delicious brunch and relaxing afternoon, then round off your day with an evening game drive, using a spotlight to find the park's nocturnal predators, and perhaps even watching them hunt.
Accommodation: Luangwa Safari House (3 nights)
-
Days 7-11: Lower Zambezi
For your final stop, travel back through Zambia to the Lower Zambezi National Park, where you will stay in the imaginatively designed Chongwe River House. This is an extraordinary house, with four bedrooms each designed to a theme, and no straight lines whatsoever – each wall curves beautifully around and the entrances to the lower bedrooms are through subterranean tunnels. Again, you have a private guide and hostess, so the days are yours to plan. Activities here include day and night game drives and walks, as well as canoeing on the Chongwe channel and boat trips on larger boats out onto the main Zambezi. The park is well known for its vast populations of elephant, and the larger bulls are very relaxed, allowing boats to drift quite close by.
Accommodation: Chongwe River House (4 nights)
