Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Zambia has a moderate to sub-tropical climate with three distinct seasons: from November to March is the Emerald, or the rainy season, April to July is Zambia's winter, when the weather is cool and dry, and August to October is summer, when the weather is hot and dry. In terms of game-viewing, the drier months, meaning a higher concentration of game at the permanent water sources, are a superb time to visit. Alternatively come for some superb bird-watching at the end of the rains.

Itinerary

This itinerary presents two of the most exquisite wilderness areas in Africa; the untamed Lower Zambezi valley which has become the first ever carbon neutral national park, combined with the enchanting South Luangwa, famed for its impressive elephant and leopard sightings. This week-long safari is action-packed with astonishing wildlife sightings and adrenaline filled activities, in some of the lesser explored safari regions of Africa.

  1. Fly to Lusaka

  2. Days 1-5: Lower Zambezi

Upon arrival into Lusaka, Zambia’s capital city, feel your excitement build as you board your flight to the Lower Zambezi National Park, of the most breathtakingly beautiful safari regions in Africa. Your wilderness home for the next 4 nights is Chongwe Camp, dotted along the banks of the Zambezi River. After settling into camp, relish on a freshly cooked meal on the forested riverbank in front of camp, and gaze across the river as an elephant wades through the still water, dwarfed by the mountainous backdrop behind him. The next 4 days will be brimming with wildlife sightings and adrenaline filled activities. Venture out on a thrilling walking safari; this is the ultimate nature walk as all your senses awaken, fully immersing yourself in this pristine wilderness. Head out on a game drive and feel your adrenaline pumping as you follow a fast-paced pack of African wild dog as they hunt for prey. Observe wildlife from a totally different perspective on a boat; drift down the river and see a break in the tranquil water as you approach a pod of hippos submerged in the water to escape the sun. Evenings will be spent lazing around a crackling campfire, with a glass of wine in hand, listening to the sounds of lions gently roaring in the distance.

Accommodation: Chongwe River Camp (4 nights)

  3. Days 5-8: South Luangwa National Park

This morning after your game drive, you will hop on a short flight to Mfuwe, the gateway to the South Luangwa National Park. Your destination and home for the next 3 nights is Mchenja, a stylish camp nestled under huge ebony trees on the banks of the Luangwa River. Whilst you settle into camp and gaze out at the river from your veranda, watch in complete awe as you see an elephant within reach of you, feeding on the seed pods.

Feel your adrenaline build as you journey out in your open safari vehicle and watch the nature unfold around you. The park is famed for elephant and leopard sightings and your expert guide will track these majestic animals, getting you involved too. Being in a leopard’s territory and knowing that a pair of striking amber eyes may be looking out at you from the shadow of a tree is enough to set anyone’s pulse racing and you’ll watch in complete awe when you come across one of these beautiful animals. Your following says here will be spent tracking animals on game drives and on foot and you’ll also have the chance to go on night game drives, in search for the more elusive, nocturnal animals. The park is also a haven for birdlife and if you are here from September, witness Carmine bee-eaters paint the sky in fuchsia and turquoise, as the nest along the clay riverbanks.

Accommodation: Mchenja Bush Camp (3 nights)

  4. Fly Home
