Spend an active week in the scenic north of Vietnam, and journey up into the hills of Sapa, where you will find terraced rice paddies, panoramic views and friendly hill tribes. In Hanoi you will have a chance to spend a day in the life of a Hanoian. End your active week with one night on Lan Ha Bay, Halong Bay’s lesser known little sister.

  1. Days 1-3: Sapa, The Far North, Vietnam

Start your adventure by landing in Hanoi, Vietnam’s unique capital city. On arrival, you will embark on a 5-hour scenic drive into the mountains to the north, or alternatively you could catch an overnight train in the evening, which will take you about 8-hours. In Sapa, we had included some exciting treks, passing through villages belonging to hilltribes such as the Red Dzao and Black Hmong. Two nights will be enough to enjoy the panoramic views and famous terraced rice paddies, before heading on to pastures new.

If your stay in Sapa coincides with a Sunday, you can also join a tour to the Bac Ha Market, the largest and most colorful market in the area.

    Accommodation: Topas Ecolodge (2 nights)

  2. Days 3-5: Hanoi

Today you will begin the long drive back to Hanoi, stopping off along the way to take photographs and stretch your legs. Stay two nights in the center of the city close by to the Hoan Kiem Lake, the opera house and the characterful Old Quarter. Spend a day living the life of a Hanoian where your private guide will walk you through the local street, have a drink at the local coffee shop and listen to some fascinating story of the locals.

Accommodation: Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi (2 nights)

  3. Days 5-6: Halong Bay

Rise early to drive or optionally take a thrilling sea plane ride to the coast and embark on a one-night cruise around the limestone karsts and mysterious grottoes of Lan Ha Bay, a short distance south of Halong Bay but a much less densely touristed area. Once you have set off, you will have the opportunity to swim, snorkel and explore local fishing villages by foot or by kayak. Cooking demonstrations, spa treatments and midnight squid fishing are all available on board, or alternatively just steal up to the top deck after a delicious supper to enjoy a spot of star gazing.

Accommodation: Heritage Line - Ginger (1 night)
