Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
This itinerary is great year round, bar September and October, where the weather is humid and prone to storms in Los Cabos. While this might be peak wine crush time in the Napa Valley, our recommendation is to visit the valley outside of this time when it suffers less traffic and hotel rates are more reasonable.
Why not travel in the winter and wrap up warm for San Francisco city sights; cosy up by a fire and indulge in the hot-spring spa in Napa; and then enjoy perfect sunshine and world-class whale watching in Baja. Spring is a wonderful time to travel when March and April bring spring farm-to-table to Napa and whales are still found off the Baja coast (Nov-April). Summer time is ideal too with balmy temperatures throughout, there might not be the whales to watch but snorkeling, diving, golf, fishing and surfing are all for the taking.

Reviews

In September I was lucky enough to trail this trip all in the name of research. It's such a fantastic mix of an iconic city, incredible food and wine and the beach. I also love the contrast between the Californian and Mexican cultures - two of my favorite places for food, scenery and people. Highlights of this trip for me were dancing in Union Square to an impromptu Friday night band, tucking into fresh crab at Fisherman's Wharf, spending the morning in the Spa at Solage (the Mud Bar is a must!); touring the valley sipping pinots and chardonnays with a wine expert; and in Mexico swimming with whale sharks, a fresh Lobster with Mole feast at Las Ventanas and taking a morning jog on their empty Pacific beach with no one else around!
