Volcano Kohala Landing
Departing from Kona Airport, you will start by flying over the Kona coffee district and get your first glimpse of Mauna Kea, Hawaii's highest summit, on your way to explore the activity at Kilauea crater. If conditions are favourable, you’ll get a look into the molten heart of Hawaii in the form of hot lava and also a chance to view the lava as it spills into the Pacific Ocean, an impressive sight to behold. Then, you head North to Hilo town and the volcano landscape makes way for lush rainforests as the change in climate is apparent on the East coast.
For a very special and unique experience you will soar deep into Kohala for an exclusive landing within the rainforest. This area is normally only accessible by hours of gruelling hiking and you can enjoy the opportunity to walk along the fertile valleys or simply relax at the scenic overlook and marvel at your surroundings. After exploring on the ground, you'll rise up in to the air again to view the drastic landscape change from rainforest back to arid and the world-famous white sand beaches and resorts of the West en route to back to Kona.
Tour departs each morning at 7:30 from Kona Airport and check in is 45 minutes prior to departure. Total duration is around 2 hours flying time with up to 1 hour on the ground at the landing site.
