Carmel is an all-year destination if you like fine dining and shopping. For nature lovers, the coast is wonderfully wild in winter and you can go whale-watching and birding; spring sees wonderful flower displays, and there are a host of watersports to be tried at the beach in the summer; autumn brings harvest bounty and temperatures are usually still balmy. The fog is present mostly in May and June, but usually burns off by lunchtime.

Description
Located in the heart of beautiful Carmel-by-the-Sea, this luxury Relais & Chateaux inn from the 1920s is a hidden gem, just blocks from the stunning scenery of the famous Carmel Beach.
This historic and quaint inn was originally built to house the artists and creative minds of San Francisco who had to leave the city following the devastating earthquake of 1906. The classic inn was commissioned by Allen Knight, one of early Carmel's most colorful figures. His collaboration with San Francisco architect Albert Farr who, inspired by his travels around Europe, resulted in a three-storey building that captures the historic Carmel aesthetic. Stepping through the doors of this elegant inn certainly feels like you are being transported to a quaint European village.
The 20 individually designed guest rooms are furnished with French windows and are arranged around a delightful courtyard and stone fountain. The rooms are luxurious yet understated, with Italian sheets and large bathrooms with oversized, classic soaking tubs. L'Auberge Carmel is a truly intimate and romantic spot for couples.
A real highlight of the hotel is it's award-winning restaurant, Aubergine. Executive Chef Justin Cogley's cuisine showcases the finest ingredients with a fantastic balance of respect and innovation. The intimate 12 table on-site restaurant features an underground wine cellar constructed beneath the inn's courtyard to house the restaurant's 4,500 bottle collection, with a particular focus on wines from Monterey County and France.
Accommodation
All individually designed guest rooms feature warm colors that accent the French windows and the quaint charm of the architecture with the finest fabrics, linens and down bedding. All rooms feature a separate walk-in shower, vanity and under floor heating in the bathrooms.
