Occupying a picturesque spot on the banks of the Utcubamba River, Casa Hacienda Achamaqui is a fantastic family-friendly base for exploring the Chachapoyas region of northern Peru, within easy reach of the impressive Gocta waterfalls.
Boasting impressive views of the surrounding valley from its riverside location, Casa Hacienda Achamaqui is a charming property with beautiful gardens and makes for a wonderful base from which to explore the Utcubamba Valley and Chachapoya highlights of northern Peru. The property is a 30-minute drive from the trail to Gocta Falls, one of the must-sees in this region, and around 1 hour 30 minutes from Leymebamba. The ruins of Kuelap, Karajia sarcophagi and Revash are also within reach.
The property itself is simple yet comfortable, with rooms spread throughout three separate buildings which surround two swimming pools. The spacious grounds extend in all directions and trails lead from the entrance along the river where you can spot impressive sarcophagi perched high on the cliffs. The staff host pizza nights in the gardens and campfires which work well for families and offer a great opportunity for relaxation in the evenings. Food is simple but delicious and there is a huge focus on regional specialties. This is an ideal option for families or couples wishing to explore this stunning and remote valley.
There are 31 rooms and suites at Casa Hacienda Achamaqui which are spread throughout the main building and two separate buildings behind the swimming pools. One of the building contains 10 rooms and can be split to form two separate villas which are ideal for families and boast great outdoor terrace space overlooking the gardens.
Facilities include two swimming pools (one for adults and one for children), a small spa treatment room, a tennis court, wood-burning pizza oven, campfire, lounge area with TV and books, tennis court and a restaurant. Complimentary WiFi is available throughout the property except in the restaurant.
Additional activities on the property include bonfire evenings, pizza nights, cookery classes, birdwatching, cinema nights for children, painting and pottery workshops, local textiles tours and hiking along the trails past the river to observe the sarcophagi. The hotel is also a great base for exploring the highlights of the valley which include the impressive hilltop ruins of Kuelap, the Gocta Falls which are reached on foot through the forest and the cliffside sarcophagi of Karajia.
