Itinerary
Experience Oman’s fascinating culture and some of the country’s most beautiful landscapes. Drive in the dunes, wade in the wadis and venture into mountains around Jebel Akhdar before returning to Muscat to enjoy some time by the beach and pools.
-
Days 1-3: Muscat
Your first two nights are spent in Oman’s capital city of Muscat where alongside your guide you will be able to explore the Sultan Qaboos Mosque, stop off outside the Sultan’s Palace and visit the local muttrah souk to stroll past colorful stalls selling exotic spices and silver. The rest of the time can be spent window shopping on the promenade, soaking up the sun on the beach, or enjoying the delicious local fare in one of the many restaurants.
Accommodation: Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel (2 nights)
-
Days 3-4: Wahiba Sands
Leave the city behind and drive out into the desert, sightseeing as you go. Your destination is the shifting dunes of Wahiba Sands where you will find your luxury tented camp. Enjoy some exhilarating dune driving, perhaps ride a camel or swim in a wadi before settling down for a night under the stars.
Accommodation: Safari Desert Camp (1 night)
-
Days 4-6: Nizwa
Following the desert, your journey takes you west into the Jabal Akhdar Mountain rage. Pass ancient villages built on rolling terraces winding down the hillside, and near the summit, you will find the Wadi Ghul, which has a sheer drop of the kilometer on either side - the views are simply stunning. En-route to your hotel you will find untouched wadis to explore, with their fast-flowing streams and lush vegetation lying at the foot of towering gorges. Nizwa itself contains a superb fort and an excellent souk – best explored on Fridays when the locals come from all around to sell their livestock. Spend one night here and explore the sights and sounds of this former capital city.
Accommodation: The View (2 nights)
-
Days 6-8: Muscat
As your adventure draws to a close, you head back towards Muscat, stopping along the way at interesting towns and villages. Spend your final two nights relaxing on the beach, and we recommend also taking a boat trip out onto the Gulf of Oman to spot dolphins and whales. Enjoy your last coffee in the souk and pick up your last few souvenirs before it’s time to head home, after a blissful week in the mountains, desert and capital city of Oman.
Accommodation: Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, Sultanate of Oman (2 nights)
