The climate in New Zealand is incredibly pleasant, with warm and balmy summers and cold crisp winter months with wonderful clear, blue skies. The warmer high-season months of November to April are perfect for outdoor exploration. The colder months of June to August are the best time to ski.

Both North and South Islands are drier on the east coast, rather than on the west, where mountain ranges act as a trap for the moisture-rich winds from the Tasman Sea. It is also worth remembering that it is usually a few degrees cooler on the South Island than the North Island and as New Zealand has a maritime climate, the weather can change rapidly.

Insider's View

I would recommend staying in one of the cottages or the Main Suite as they all offer spectacular views across the lake

Take a little stroll around their grounds and down to the beach, there is a little cave and a couple of sheep and donkeys to say hello to!

To start planning your vacation to Peppers on the Point

Peppers on the Point is a charming property, just a 10 minute drive from the center of Rotorua in New Zealand's North Island. The lodge is quite quirky but offers guests a comfortable stay with wonderful views across one of Rotorua's many lakes.

Peppers on the Point is a former 1930's private home, which in more recent years has been lovingly restored and developed into a charming lodge with bags of New Zealand character. The property is under a 10-minute drive from the center of Rotorua, so is a great choice for those wanting to take part in lots of the town's fun activities.

The property is made up of a small number of rooms and suites within the lodge itself, as well as two private Lake Cottage Suites away from the main building. The Main Suite is a great choice for honeymooners and is located on the first floor of the lodge, and offers panoramic views across the lake. As well as the spacious bedroom, the suite also comes with a separate dressing room, study and large balcony from which you can enjoy the views. The self-contained private Lake Cottage Suites are also great options with each featuring its own lounge, laundry facilities, and an open-air hot tub on the deck overlooking the lake.

On site, there is a tennis court, small gym, library and a private jetty, from which you can take the floatplane out or try your hand at fishing. Elsewhere in Rotorua, go on a nature walk through the Whakarewarewa Forest, go on a kayaking adventure on Lake Rotoiti, or pay a visit to the Manapirua Hot Pools and learn about the natural geothermal springs.

Peppers On The Point is a very cute little lodge located 10 minutes from town. The style is quite quirky and quaint and while I would say it is not for everybody, I would say the whole experience there feels very personal and secluded. Set on a slope up from the edge of the lake, you get amazing views out across Lake Rotorua, it really is just so peaceful.

Located less than 10 minutes outside of Rotorua town center, Peppers on the Point is a charming, boutique and arguably 'kooky' lodge. With a total of just 15 rooms, the property is suitable for those who prefer something more intimate and away from the crowds. The property certainly has a lot of character but does feel more like a luxury B&B rather than a lodge - although it's worth keeping in mind that dinner is included.
