Housed in four historic buildings around a central courtyard, the Hotel Azul Talavera is a stylish fusion of cutting-edge contemporary design embedded within beautiful original architecture, creating an inspired and elegant hotel for exploring Pueblo.
Hotel Azul Talavera (formerly a Rosewood property) is a wonderful example of how to fuse historic charm with modern-day design and the conversion of four period buildings into this stylish hotel is triumph of architectural ingenuity and finesse. Striking frescoes, polished tiled floors, stone walls, exposed brickwork, elegant archways and stained-glass windows are enhanced by contemporary Mexican ceramics, Talavera tiles, modern art, period wooden furniture and a sophisticated neutral color palette with pops of color used sparingly and to great effect. Just steps away from the main plaza, it makes a fabulous base for exploring this UNESCO-listed city. It is around a two-hour drive from Mexico City to Puebla.
Each of the 78 rooms and suites have been individually designed and furnished to complement any original architectural features. All accommodation is spacious, but the suites include a comfortable living area and interconnecting rooms are available for families. Amenities include air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, state-of-the-art entertainment system with HD channels, safe, minibar and sumptuous en-suite bathroom.
As well as three different dining options, Hotel Azul Talavera affords a casual rooftop bar and terrace with fantastic city views, also home to the hotel's fabulous swimming pool. This is the perfect spot to come and unwind after exploring Puebla on foot, and on a clear day you’ll be treated to distant views of the surrounding snow-capped volcanoes. There’s a fitness center for those needing to work off all that food and a sumptuous spa to refresh and rejuvenate. For atmosphere, head to the lounge bar inspired by the 19th century laundry that once ran beneath the building and grab a seat in one of booths tucked into the dramatic archways.
The 78 rooms and suites at Hotel Azul Talavera offer an elegant mix of modern amenities and classic Mexican styling, with details reflecting the city's proud colonial heritage. Hand cut stone walls are softened with luxurious drapes and plush bedding, with local artwork, splashes of color and the region's iconic Talavera tiles featured thorughout. Rooms are each unique but all are spacious, starting at 420 square feet in the entry-level category. All come equipped with complimentary WiFi. a safe, mini bar, state of the art entertainment system and luxurious bath amenities.
There are fantastic and varied dining options at Hotel Azul Talavera, with something to suit everyone. The main dining hub is the open-kitchen setting of Pasquinel Bistrot, mixing European flavors and local ingredients in a mouthwatering fusion. For something a little more casual, Café Azul Talavera offers a brasserie-style menu of smaller plates and salads, with craft beers and Mexican wines to accompany dishes. Bar los Lavaderos sits inside the remains of a 19th Century wash houseand is a sophisticated bar and lounge serving delicious tapas dishes and a fine selection of fine liquers, spirits and premium mezcals and tequilas.
Other facilities include a rooftop bar and terrace where guests can enjoy light dishes and a selection of premium drinks in a relaxed setting, either at the bar or relaxing on loungers which surround the pool and make the most of the hotel's city views. There is also a small spa and fitness center.
Puebla is renowned for its proud and rich history, and its streets are lined with churches and colorful homes which demonstrate beautiful colonial architecture. Explore on foot and visit some of its 365 churches, art galleries and museums, elegant boutiques and numerous local restaurants. Puebla is also known for its rich warming cuisine and more commonly, Mole Poblano, a delicious sauce which often accompanies meat and is full of flavor. Try it out or even get stuck in with a cookery class. We can also arrange Talavera tile painting workshops and visits to the great pyramid of Cholula and surrounding villages.

The hotel balances luxury whilst still seamlessly fitting into Puebla's historically and culturally rich identity. This hotel is made up of a group of traditional Poblano houses (some parts of it dating back 300 years!) around a central courtyard, and maintains all the character of the original features - such as charming exposed stone work or cobbled paths, juxtaposed against beautiful contemporary elements, making it a really exciting hotel to simply walk around in, but made even more comfortable with their luxury services and facilities. The rooms themselves are comfortable and stylish - abet lacking some of the character of the main areas of the hotel, but are spacious, bright and fresh. The breakfast is one of the best I've enjoyed in Mexican hotels and service throughout is consistently good - friendly and helpful. The real jewel is its amazing view of the city from it's pool bar at the top of the main building, it's modern and super chic - the most beautiful contrast to the baroque features visible from the stunning panorama on offer.
