Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
Both Zambia and Malawi have a moderate to sub-tropical climate with three distinct seasons: from November to March is the Emerald, or the rainy season, April to July is winter, when the weather is cool and dry, and August to October is summer, when the weather is hot and dry. In terms of game-viewing, the dryer months, meaning a higher concentration of game at the permanent water sources, are a superb time to visit. Alternatively come for some superb bird-watching at the end of the rains.

Days 1-5: South Luangwa National Park
Your vacation begins as you fly from Lusaka to Mfuwe where you can access the South Luangwa National Park. A stay in the South Luangwa is best experienced in a bush camp, although potentially a little more basic, these camps put you right in the middle of the action and offer a feeling of complete exclusivity and privacy. Spend four nights in this wildlife-rich National Park where you will have plenty of opportunities to head out in a game vehicle as well as on foot, for which the park is so famous for. You’ll be looked after by some of the best guides in the business as you explore the river, lagoons and plains and, at night, you’ll sleep in comfortable and spacious thatched rooms which open at the front, so you can enjoy all of the night time sounds of the bush. Walking from here you may come across wildlife including zebra, giraffe and elephant.
Accommodation: Luwi Bush Camp (4 nights)

Days 5-10: Lake Malawi
Today you will be transferred back to Mfuwe where you will take a direct flight to Lilongwe in Malawi where you will connect onwards to the pristine island of Likoma where the stunning Kaya Mawa is located. Here you will spend the next five nights in an enormous and luxurious bedroom with a beautiful view over the lake. Rooms are built into the boulders of the peninsular being ideally positioned for the cooling breezes from the lake to pass through. Kaya Mawa has its own boat and during a stay here you can enjoy sunset cruises across the lake, stopping for a swim in the crystal-clear waters. Other activities include snorkeling and fishing whilst sailing, water skiing and scuba diving come at an extra cost. For those who wish to stay on dry land, walks to the main town with its fascinating cathedral are offered, and there are quad bikes available for guests to hire at an extra coast, ot simply just relax in Kaya Mawa's spectacular surroundings and enjoy Malawian hospitality.
