Itinerary

Journey through Sweden and Norway on this itinerary that takes in some of the finest accommodation and destinations Scandinavia has to offer. From cities to fjords and mountains, visit some unforgettable highlights around this stunning part of Europe.

  1. Days 1-4: Stockholm and Eastern Sweden

After arriving in Stockholm, we recommend a walking tour of Stockholm's old town and a visit to the Vasa Museum for the opportunity to see the only almost fully intact 17th century ship that has ever been salvaged. During your three nights in Stockholm discovering the archipelago is a must. Spot seals and sea eagles as you explore on a RIB tour, weaving through its 300,000 islands.

Accommodation: The Lydmar Hotel (3 nights)

  2. Days 4-6: Gothenburg and Western Sweden

From the capital of Sweden, head south west to Gothenburg and stay two nights at Upper House, a five-star hotel located high above the city center. A joy to explore on foot or by bike, Gothenburg offers charming cobbled streets and striking architecture. Be sure also to experience some of the superb cuisine on offer in Gothenburg, the city has five Michelin starred restaurants to choose from and this part of Sweden is famous for lobster. Why not embark on your own Lobster safari before sampling a fresh catch at dinner?

    Accommodation: Upper House (2 nights)

  3. Days 6-8: Oslo

Fly from Gothenburg to Oslo, your first Norwegian stop. Oslo is the entry way into Norway and a charming, cosmopolitan city which features a mixture of both modern and classic architecture, against a backdrop of rolling hills. Oslo has a booming contemporary art scene, some of which is highlighted at Vigeland Sculpture park where you can meander among over 200 bronze and granite statues. In contrast to the modern, high-rise buildings the city also plays homage to its Viking roots, which can be explored at the Museum of Cultural History and the Viking Ship Museum. We have included a guided tour to take you around the highlights of the city, where you will walk past many beautiful buildings such as the Royal Palace and the National Theatre.

    Accommodation: The Thief (2 nights)

  4. Days 8-10: Bergen & Hordaland

Traveling west from Oslo you will arrive at Bergen, the gateway to the fjords characterized by charming wooden houses, stave churches and the opportunity to take a journey on the Flam Railway; the most scenic in the world. Bergen is a charming seaside city that can easily be explored on foot, and notable spots include the fish market, the funicular Fløibanen and historic Bryggen. From here there are a number of day hikes, you may choose to hike up to Mount Ulriken enjoy the spectacular views out to the ocean. Otherwise you can enjoy a slower place and explore the many shops and restaurants here.

Accommodation: Clarion Hotel Admiral (2 nights)

  5. Days 10-12: Alesund & West Coast Fjords

From Bergen, a 45-minute domestic flight takes you to into the heart of Norway’s western Fjords as you touch down in Ålesund. Ålesund is a beautiful waterfront city which was almost entirely burnt to the ground at the beginning of the 1900’s and was re-built influenced by German Art Nouveau style with colorful pastel-colored buildings. From Ålesund you can indulge in a number of activities focusing on the beautiful fjords and mountains that surround the city.

We suggest hopping in a RIB and heading out to Runde Island on a sea safari in the hope of spotting puffins and seals in their natural habitats. After, you can spend the afternoon getting to know the charming city of Ålesund; amble along the cobbled streets and admire the famed Art Nouveau style, get your hiking legs warmed up with a long march up the 418 steps to the Aksla viewpoint where you can take in the panoramic view of the city, its archipelago and the Sunnmøre Alps; or head out to the open air Sunnmøre Museum for an insight into the culture and history of Sunnmøre before going back to your hotel for some relaxation and another delicious dinner.

    Accommodation: Hotel Brosundet (2 nights)

  6. Days 12-15: Alesund & West Coast Fjords

Your last stop will be the wonderful Storfjord Hotel whose inviting sofas by the roaring open fires will make you never want to leave!

Set off for a day trip to the astounding Geirangerfjord; a UNESCO World Heritage Site home to the Seven Sisters, The Suitor, and the Bridal Veil waterfalls as well as the infamous Golden Route - Norway's best-known stretch of road consisting of 11 hairpin bends and surrounded by the dramatic scenery of the Rauma district. After a change of transport, you'll experience the fjord from the water as you sail between the rising mountains. If you have time in the afternoon, Geiranger offers a number of hiking opportunities; The Bishop, The King and The Queen are worth a go and you'll notice the difference in the landscape here which is somewhat austere and completely striking.

For a change of pace, why not spend an afternoon at a local farm and discover old Norwegian cooking techniques and traditions. The farm grows all of its own food, so you'll be using the freshest ingredients to cook up a storm.

    Accommodation: Storfjord Hotel (3 nights)

  7. Days 15-16: Oslo

You’ll end with a final night in Oslo, where you may choose to explore the surrounding landscape on a private fjord cruise or mountain hike for some incredible views.

    Accommodation: The Thief (1 night)
