Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, and the short rains are in November and December, much lighter than the long rains. January and February are again dry (the short dry season) so this is another good time to visit.
Enjoy a romantic honeymoon in Tanzania, spending a few days on safari in the stunning, wildlife rich Ruaha National Park, followed by a week on the beach relaxing in barefoot luxury at Fundu Lagoon, off the coast of Zanzibar.
After a flight to Dar es Salaam you can head straight for Ruaha National Park on a light charter flight. Arriving in Ruaha is always an impressive sight with an abundance of wildlife and baobabs scattered throughout the rolling landscape. Enjoy four days of twice daily game drives and get closer to nature on safari walks. With one of the highest concentrations of elephant in Africa and impressive big cat sightings, Ruaha will not disappoint. When not in search of the many animals this park has on offer, relax and watch the sunset over some of the most impressive scenery Africa has on offer.
From Ruaha you fly, via Dar es Salaam, to the remote island of Pemba. Fundu Lagoon has just 18 rooms and suites dotted along the beach and up the hillside overlooking the sea, all linked by rustic wooden walkways. Each has its own private deck, which makes a perfect spot to sit and sip a sundowner while watching the sunset. There is superb diving nearby at Misali Island as well as snorkeling. The lodge runs a twice-daily boat shuttle to the island and guests are welcome to take a picnic and just relax on the beach or explore the island. They also have kayaks for exploring the mangroves around the lodge and a traditional sailing dhow, which is often taken out in the evening for a little sunset cruise. Lounge in the turquoise waters of the pool, take romantic walks down white sandy beaches and indulge in romantic sea food dinners under the stars, Fundu lagoon truly feels like a desert island paradise.
The Indian Ocean surrounding Pemba offers some of the best diving and snorkeling spots in the world. There is a huge diversity of marine life in these shallow coral lagoons that drop off to incredible depths.
Spend your days in Ruaha searching for their resident big cats - lions lounging in the sun on the rocky kopjes, cheetah stalking their prey through the grassy savannah and a leopard lurking in the boughs of a tree.
Stone Town, Zanzibar Town's old quarter, has an abundance of local shops selling a wide variety of antiques, textiles, and jewelry. Spend a whole day wondering through the narrow streets and pick up some truly unique finds.
