Itinerary

This simple self-drive covers the key highlights of Alaska, head in-land to witness North America's tallest mountain, Mount Denali before heading back to the coastline of Alaska where you can expect to see some it its most spectacular wildlife.

  1. Days 1-4: Anchorage

    Arrive into Anchorage and spend your first few nights settling into Hotel Captain Cook, perfectly situated, this hotel  is a great base to explore nearby.

    Spend the next couple of days adventuring around Anchorage, opt for a Glacier Day Tour which will include a scenic train ride from the city to your departure port, whilst on the locamotive keep an eye out for moose and bald eagles. Next you will board your boat and sail the fjords out to sea. During your voyage you will discover some of Alaska's most impressive glaciers, as the towering ice formations creek and groan you will be mesmerized by their blues and hues. This day out on the water provides another opportunity to view the aquatic wildlife, it is not unusual to see the playful sea otter, orca, harbor seals as well as a variety of birds.

    On check out, pick up your car and drive north to the cute town of Talkeetna.

  2. Days 4-7: Talkeetna

    Talkeetna is a characterful town, a neighbor to Denali National Park. On arrival check into Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge, if clear skies permit, you will see Mount Denali itself cast high in the skyline. The lodge is basic but comfortable, located on the edge of the town it offers on-site outdoor activities and a restraurant but there is also easy access into downtown.

    Spend the next few days immersed in the outdoors, the lodge has plentiful activities from its doorstep, trek the nature trails, bike or enjoy a float trip along the river where you have a opportunity to spot more Alaskan wildlife, keep an eye out for bears, moose, eagles and even beavers. For those feeling more adventurous soar among the tree tops zip lining, or get the need for speed from a jet boat tour.

    Finally, a trip to Talkeetna wouldn't be complete without seeing Mount Denali from the sky, opt for a heli-sightseeing tour and marvel at the mountainous views from high above.

    After your days adventuring in Denali's backyard, you will be ready to retreat to the coastline for your final stop.

  3. Days 7-10: Kenai Peninsula

    From the mountains to the ocean, the last stop of your trip is at Tutka Bay Lodge. Located in the Kenai Peninsula this lodge offers a unique experience. Each of the cabins offers views of the bays and beyond, a private retreat of rustic luxury, your final stop is all about enjoying and relaxing in the Alaska's stunning scenery.

    Tukta Bay is set against seven-mile fjord, with a backdrop of mountains, beaches and forest. The outdoor activities on offer make the most of the wonderous outdoors that is on the doorstep. The Kenai Peninsula is world-famous for bear viewing, spot brown bears and grizzlies. Water based activities include fishing, both fly fish or deep sea fishing are on offer here, take a kayak and paddle the shoreline or head out tide-pooling and spot starfish and seaweed. Keep your feet on the ground and go on a guided glacier hike, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views or if you are after something a little less strenuous learn about Alaska communities and pioneers on a Natural History Tour.

    Wellness and relaxation is another element that makes this lodge so special. Whilst enjoying so much of the outdoors it is important to take time to relax and retreat at the lodge, with use of a hot tub and sauna it is perfect to unwind after an adventurous day. Massages are always available at the lodge. Foodies will love the wine and cheese tastings and cooking classes can be arranged on-site also.

    The serene and tranquil setting coupled with the warm welcome of the family-run lodge as well as the abundance of outdoor activities available here will make it very hard to leave.
