Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

All year round destination, although the best time to visit Namibia is from May to September as the temperature is tolerably cool, especially at night. The optimum game viewing times are between June and November. The land will have dried out meaning animals must again come to waterholes to drink. Summer (November to April) also known as the rainy season is best time to travel to Namibia for bird watching as migratory birds (both intra-African and Palaearctic) flock into the park's many habitats after the summer rains.

Itinerary

This adventurous flying safari explores Namibia’s absolute highlights whilst staying in the most luxurious properties. On this incredible vacation you will visit the dramatic dunes at Sossusvlei, marvel at the beautiful scenery of Damaraland and get lost in the remote landscape of northern Namibia before finishing with a stay in a private reserve bordering Etosha National Park.

  1. Fly into Windhoek

  2. Days 1-2: Windhoek

On arrival into Windhoek you will be transferred to The Olive Exclusive for a night to refresh and replenish after a long flight into Namibia.

Accommodation: The Olive Exclusive (1 night)

  3. Days 2-5: Sossusvlei

Your vacation begins as you fly into Sossusvlei where you will spend three nights at the beautiful Wilderness property Little Kulala. This little oasis located along the dry riverbed offers a stunning stay and a wealth of exciting activities geared towards exploring the beautiful surrounds. We recommend you get up early to spend a morning visiting the breathtaking red dunes of Sossusvlei and fascinating Dead Vlei. Spend the rest of your days exploring the area on a nature drive, or quad bike through the private reserve, or head out with an experienced guide on a walking trail to learn more about the surprisingly diverse array of insects, reptiles and rodents. For some incredible views take a trip to Sesriem Canyon and take a walk through the gorge to find the distinct geographical layers.

    Accommodation: Little Kulala (3 nights)

  4. Days 5-7: Damaraland

Today your epic journey continues as you fly north to Damaraland where you will spend the next two nights at Damaraland Camp. This stylish and spacious camp located in the Huab River Valley offers spectacular views across stunning landscapes which characterize Damaraland. We think the best way to enjoy this landscape is on a nature drive where you can enjoy dramatic scenery and if you’re lucky, find the elusive desert adapted elephants. The rest of your time can be spent on a guided nature walk to learn more about the geological features of the area, or on cultural activities such as engaging with local communities to learn about their unique heritage.

    Accommodation: Damaraland Camp (2 nights)

  5. Days 7-10: Kunene River

Flying further north still your next stop is at one of the most remote camps in southern Africa, Serra Cafema. Located on the border of Namibia and Angola this luxurious camp offers a place to disconnect and unwind in a completely secluded location. One thing we think should be on everyone’s list when visiting this camp is to meet the semi-nomadic Himba community, Serra Cafema offers an opportunity for guests to learn about their lifestyle in an authentic experience. With a beautiful location on the river, Serra Cafema also offers boat trips (when water levels are high enough) to experience some lush riverside greenery which seems at complete odds with the rest of the desert landscape. Other excellent ways to explore the area are by a guided quad bike excursion, nature walks and drives in Hartmann’s Valley, and by exploring the dunes on foot.

Accommodation: Serra Cafema Camp (3 nights)

  6. Days 10-12: Ongava Private Game Reserve

Your vacation in ultimate luxury ends at Little Ongava, located on a private reserve on the south western side of Etosha. With stunning panoramic views across the Ongava plains, Little Ongava is arguably one of Namibia’s most luxurious properties. Each suite comes with a private plunge pool and beautiful views of the waterhole below camp. Spend your final days in Namibia on day and night game drives where you will visit some of the hides overlooking waterholes, on bush walks, and even rhino tracking with an experienced guide where you could come across these timid creatures.

    Accommodation: Little Ongava (2 nights)

  7. Fly home from Windhoek

Experiences

  • Bushmen Art at Twyfelfontein

Damaraland is home to one of the oldest tribes in the country, the San, and a visit to Twyfelfontein, where you can see their art, is a highlight.

  • Desert Elephants in Damaraland

Damaraland is the southern part of the Kaokoveld, Namibia's least inhabited area, and is utterly spectacular for its landscapes. Ambling amongst the mountains and valleys are the famous Desert-adapted elephants.

  • Dune driving on the Skeleton Coast

The Skeleton Coast is dominated by enormous dunes, and one of the best way to explore these is in a 4X4 vehicle specially adapted for dune-driving.

  • Himba Villages - Northern Namibia

The Himba people live in northern Namibia, in the Kunene Region, very close to the Skeleton Coast, and a visit to one of their villages is a fascinating insight into a way of life unchanged for centuries.

  • Hot Air Ballooning - Sossusvlei

Enjoy the rocky landscape and sand dunes of Sossusvlei from above, soar over the Namib Desert as the landscape changes color as the sun rises. What better way to view them than from above, drifting gently in a hot air balloon?

  • Quadbiking at Serra Cafema

One of the highlights, guided quad bike excursions through the fragile environs, is done with utmost care along specifically allocated pathways, so as to tread lightly on the dunes and preserve the unique and delicate habitats of this landscape.

  • Red Dunes and Dead Vlei, Sossusvlei

On the edge of the Namib-Naukluft are the iconic dunes of Sossusvlei, a dune sea slowly marching towards the Atlantic Ocean.

  • Rhino Tracking in Damaraland

Damaraland's mountains and rocky landscapes are the perfect habitat for the endangered black rhino - with no boundaries, the rhino are free to wander where they please.
