Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

April to October is best for time for visiting Peru’s Andean region and main highlights. It is typically sunny in the day and cold at night due to altitude. Heavy rains last from December to end of February with January and February being the wettest months. The Amazon is generally hot, wet and humid year round. Peru is very popular in the high season, especially during their many cultural festivals such as Inti Raymi on 24 June, so best to book well in advance.

A fantastic introduction to the mysteries and drama of Peru, taking in colonial Cuzco, the Sacred Valley and legendary Machu Picchu Inca ruins before heading into the Amazon to explore the sights, sounds and smells of the rainforest at Reserva Amazonica.

  1. Fly to Lima

  2. Days 1-2: Lima

Begin your journey in Lima, Peru’s capital city and a perfect jumping off point. Stay for one night in the bohemian Barranco district which is full of leafy streets with fantastic restaurants and galleries nearby.

    Accommodation: Hotel B (1 night)

  3. Days 2-5: Sacred Valley

Fly to Cuzco and continue into the heart of the Sacred Valley by road. Here among the mountains and pastures that were so important to the Incas stand great forts and temples, bustling markets and surreally beautiful terraced salt lagoons – a testament to the vibrancy of the Andean peoples, ancient and modern. Visit Maras and Moray, beautiful salt lagoons and a hugely important archaeological site respectively. The Sacred Valley is also a perfect base from which to visit the “Lost City” of Machu Picchu, nestled high on a ridge and shrouded in mystery. Take the train from the Sacred Valley and explore these incredible ruins with a private guide, before returning to the Sacred Valley in the evening.

Accommodation: Hotel Sol y Luna (3 nights)

  4. Days 5-8: Cuzco

Return to Cuzco, an enchanting city with colorful market stalls and art galleries, great museums and architecture from the colonial and Inca eras. Several impressive Inca ruins surround the city; explore with a guide who will bring their history to life. We recommend three nights in Cuzco to soak in its charms and enjoy all that it has to offer.

Accommodation: Inkaterra La Casona (3 nights)

  5. Days 8-11: Puerto Maldonado

Continue your journey to the Amazon, staying at the Reserva Amazonica, which lies in the heart of pristine rainforest. Expert naturalist guides lead hikes and canoe trips to view the wildlife, including visiting the clay licks, which come alive with hundreds of brightly colored macaws.
