Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, and the short rains are in November and December, much lighter than the long rains. January and February are again dry (the short dry season) so this is another good time to visit.

Itinerary

An exciting and adventurous itinerary taking in the highlights of Northern Tanzania, from Tarangire National Park to the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater before ending in the mighty Seregenti for world class game viewing.

  1. Fly to Kilimanjaro

  2. Days 1-2: Arusha

You will fly into Kilimanjaro Airport, here you will be met by a representative and driven through the impressive coffee plantations of Arusha to where you will spend your first night. Here you can relax and refresh after the long-haul flight, lounge by the turquoise waters of the swimming pool, or participate in a coffee plantation tour.

Accommodation: Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge (1 night)

  3. Days 2-4: Tarangire National Park

Your private guide will drive you to Tarangire National Park where your northern Tanzania sojourn will begin. The landscape of Tarangire is dramatic - towering, fat baobabs dot the plains, interspersed with thick bush which leopard and lion like to hunt among; it's a super park for some great game-viewing in the company of your expert guide. Activities in this stunning park are of course focused around safari, offering you a chance to fully immerse yourself in what this park has to offer. Here you get it all - excellent game drives in search of Tarangire’s resident carnivores and huge elephant population, game walks in quiet areas where you can get closer to the smaller fauna and flora which you wouldn’t typically see from a safari vehicle, and search for the more elusive nocturnal special on exciting night drives.

    Accommodation: Kuro Tarangire (2 nights)

  4. Days 4-6: Ngorongoro Crater

From Tarangire you will be transferred by 4x4 vehicle to the Ngorongoro Crater where you will spend the next two nights exploring this natural wonder with your own guide. This World Heritage Site really is not to be missed, as the world's largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera it is already a spectacular sight to behold, but the crater floor is also filled with a plethora of animals including the Big Five. Spend your days on safari and then enjoy the spectacular sunset over the crater in the evening with a cool glass of wine in hand. It will undoubtedly be a highlight of your safari.

    Accommodation: Entamanu Ngorongoro (2 nights)

  5. Days 6-9: Serengeti National Park

For your final few days you will fly to the heart of the Serengeti and spend three nights in one of the most famous National Parks in the world. As the Serengeti is so vast there are many corners to explore with varying habitats, therefore the best way to see as much as possible is on the twice daily game drives. Game viewing can be truly unbelievable, particularly when the migration is in town. It's impossible not to be awed by the sight of nearly a million wildebeest and half a million zebra. Aside from the migration the Serengeti is still a wildlife hot spot and offers some of the most spectacular wildlife viewing opportunities in the whole of East Africa. To top off an already great trip, there is the option of floating above these endless plains in a hot air balloon, which is certainly something to tick off the bucket list.

Accommodation: Serengeti Safari Camp (3 nights)

  6. Fly from Kilimanjaro

Experiences

  • Game drive in Lake Manyara

Lake Manyara is a tiny gem of a national park in Northern Tanzania, famed in particular for its flamingos. Go on game drives here in search of tree-climbing lions, elephants, waterbuck and hippos.

  • Game drive in the Serengeti

Explore the vast grasslands of the Serengeti with your safari guide on game drives in the early morning and late afternoon. This is one of the most famous national parks in Africa, and it's easy to see why.

  • Hot Air Balloon over the Tarangire National Park

Take a hot air balloon ride at sunrise over the Tarangire National Park for a totally unique experience that will make your trip that bit more memorable as you look down on the bush from above whilst the sun rises.

  • Ngorongoro Crater game drive

Explore the dormant volcanic caldera of the Ngorongoro Crater in a safari vehicle - this is a unique location for a game drive and the dramatic scenery really adds to the magic.

  • Night Drives in the Tarangire

Night drives are an experience which is not permitted in many of the national parks of Tanzania. In the Tarangire, however, you can head out with your guide, searching the inky dark with a spotlight. This is when the drama ramps up in the African bush.
