Traveling during the green season offers some wonderful wildlife opportunities along with fewer travelers.
Enjoy a range of game activities, from game drives and walking safaris to boat trips and mokoro excursions.
The green season is a great time of year to see recently born and young animals with their mothers.
Birdlife in green season is prolific with migrant birds arriving in vast numbers, including carmine bee-eaters, king fishers and rollers.
Botswana’s winter is May to October when the weather is hot during the day (not stiflingly hot) and cold at night. Botswana's summer months (November to April) can be hot and humid and there is a chance of rain. Botswana has one rainy season which runs between mid-December and runs through to mid-March.
This itinerary offers a fantastic exploration of Botswana’s Kwando-Linyanti region combined with the lush Okavango Delta. Traveling in the green season between November and March can be very rewarding with wildlife giving birth to their young and some exceptional birdlife. This, along with the lush green scenery provides plenty of picture perfect opportunities.
Your green season adventure starts at Lagoon Camp located on Kwando Private Concession in the Linyanti area. This fascinating area north of the Delta is where two rivers meet forming a rich ecosystem which supports a staggering amount of game. Your time at Lagoon will be typically spent on morning and afternoon game drives where your guide will be on hand to find some of the large predators including lion, leopard and even wild dog, for which the reserve is well known for. A stay at Lagoon also includes a bush walk - you’ll be accompanied by an expert guide who will be on hand to teach you about the unique ecosystem and some of the smaller plant life and animals. Traveling during green season also affords the opportunity to explore the waterways by boat along with some fishing.
Leaving Lagoon, your trip continues as you take a morning game drive through the beautiful Kwando Reserve to Lebala Camp. Located on the 232,000-hectare private reserve, Lebala overlooks the Linyanti marshes and has beautiful views over the waterways and plains beyond. The Kwando Reserve is characterized by wide open spaces which will be explored on morning and afternoon game drives as well as on walking safaris, which we think are a great way to explore this huge wilderness. An array of wonderful wildlife in this area include elephant, hippo, buffalo along with the predators such as lion, cheetah and hyena.
Your time in Linyanti comes to an end as you fly down into the heart of the Okavango Delta. Enjoy spectacular birds eye views over the stunning waterways of the Delta before landing in the private Kwara Reserve to stay at Splash Camp. Offering a wonderfully varied safari experience, Splash boasts both permanent water and seasonal floodplains along with dry bush wilderness. This area of the Delta has some excellent game viewing and days here will be spent on a myriad of activities. All included, choose from game drives, walking safaris, boat cruises, mokoro excursions and even fishing. We think a mokoro excursion should be on everyone’s list, as it offers a completely different view of the unique Delta ecosystem. With off-roading opportunities and exciting night drives, this is a great camp to round off a green season itinerary.
One of the best ways to see the big game of Botswana's Okavango Delta is on a game drive with a knowledgeable guide. Explore in open-sided vehicles to maximize your viewing opportunities, this is a truly wildlife rich environment.
Walking in the African bush with a professional safari guide is a fantastic experience. Enjoy a completely different perspective on foot than from a vehicle.
