Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, and the short rains are in November and December, much lighter than the long rains. January and February are again dry (the short dry season) so this is another good time to visit. The wildebeest migration happens most of year in Tanzania's Serengeti, and is linked to the rainfall.
Head off on a magical adventure to East Africa to explore the wonders of the beautiful Selous Game Reserve on an action packed four-day safari. This stunning Reserve is ideal for families traveling with teenagers due to its offering of a wide variety of activities such as game drives, boat cruises and even fishing. After your exhilarating safari experience head over to the soft white sandy beaches of Zanzibar where you can relax or explore.
Having taken a flight to Dar es Salaam it is then just a short hop into the Selous Game Reserve by light aircraft. The Selous is a veritable Garden of Eden with its rivers, forests and palms. Throughout this four day safari, explore the wilderness by 4WD vehicle, by boat or on foot (with age restrictions) spotting a variety of game from big cats to elephants to hippo. At the end of each exhilarating and rewarding day you can enjoy a drink as the sun sets over the magnificent plains before retiring to your room with tranquil views over the Rufiji River.
After four days on safari you take a short flight to Zanzibar for a full week on the beach to relax. Zanzibar is the perfect retreat, after the busier schedule of safari, allowing you to cool off in the turquoise waters of the swimming pool or take relaxing walks along the white sandy beaches. For those not wanting to relax, namely teenagers with a lot of energy, Zanzibar can offer a multitude of different water sports including snorkeling and scuba diving, or explore the labyrinth of historic Stone Town in search of quirky shops and other mysterious finds.
Sailing in a dhow, the traditional sailing boat used in Zanzibar, is the best way to view the island's coastline. Sailing in the late evening to watch the sun set is the best time of day and is wonderfully romantic.
Visit Zanzibar Towns old quarter, Stone Town on the west coast of Zanzibar. Here you will find beautiful architecture and historic buildings dating back to the 19th century, revealing the complex history of Zanzibar and its links with the slave trade.
Get up close and personal with the hippos in the Selous' mighty rivers and lakes on a boat safari, perfect in the late afternoons when the wildlife often comes to the shore to drink.
Located off the eastern coast of Africa, in the warm and clear Indian Ocean, Zanzibar is home to some great diving locations. Head to the tiny atolls off the north coast of Zanzibar, or take a trip to its neighboring island of Pemba.
Escape the beach for an afternoon by visiting Jozani Forest in the center of Zanzibar, home to the endemic and rare Kirk's colobus monkeys.
While in the main the Selous Game Reserve is an arid area, certain sections are blessed by the permanent waters of the Rufiji River and the northern lakes. These water sources are home to great volumes of catfish, and the fierce fighting tiger fish.
Zanzibar offers an abundance of Kitesurfing opportunities across its clear and warm waters. Visit the east coast of Zanzibar for a range of Kitesurfing centers and seek-out a new adrenaline rush.
