Salvador goes mad during Carnival (February or March depending on the year) - more than 2 million party-goers hit the streets for a colorful riot of dancing and drinking - expect prices to hike and availability to fall dramatically.
Brazil is a paradise for active travelers, with incredible national parks, mountains, forest and beaches all inviting adventures throughout this vast and varied country. Start your journey in Rio de Janeiro, where the iconic beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema are sandwiched in between colorful neighborhoods, verdant mountains and the Atlantic ocean. Soak in the party atmosphere and spend days exploring the city's highlights. A hike has also been included to Two Brothers Hill which although challenging will reward you with spectacular views across Rio's beautiful skyline.
Fly north to Salvador, the capital of Bahia state which is rich in Afro-Brazilian culture and has a year-round carnival atmosphere. A city tour has been included to introduce you to the highlights of Salvador with a private guide, giving you chance to learn about the culture and traditions of this proud region. Bahia is also where capoeira originated, a traditional Brazilian martial art form which requires plenty of agility and flexibility.
