Weather-wise, the best times to go are spring and autumn. Marrakech is very hot in the summer months of July and August, a dry but extremely relentless heat. By the end of October the evenings are cold, although the midday sun is still warm enough to bask in. The weather in winter, from November to March, ranges from cold and rainy to sunny days, warm enough to sit outside.
Take in the highlights of Morocco experiencing the city, mountains and desert in this varied itinerary, a great way to combine the very best of what Morocco has to offer in a short space of time. Begin with culture, color and excitement in the bustling streets of Marrakech before jetting off to the adventurous landscapes of the Agafay desert, finally retreating to the serene Atlas Mountains. You’ll be accompanied by a driver and guide throughout with an exciting host of activities included.
Beginning in Marrakech, head to the main square to soak up the bustling atmosphere and spot dancing acrobats and musicians. In the souks you can browse the exuberant stalls, haggling as you go and explore the old fortress city. We’ve included a historical highlights tour, as well as a tasting tour for you, where an expert local guide will escort you around Marrakech’s colorful food markets, explaining to you how the locals buy produce and which herbs and spices are used to make their traditional dishes.
As well as the markets there is plenty to keep you occupied in this exciting city. Why not visit the Majorelle gardens, restored by fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and home a vast array of exotic art? We have also included an authentic cooking class for you, where you’ll create delicious Moroccan dishes in the beautiful setting of a vegetable garden.
One of our favorite ways to explore the city is by side car, and we’ll arrange for you to be whisked through the narrow side streets, taking you off the beaten track to find secret markets and beautifully-decorated buildings.
Finally, a visit to Morocco would not be complete without trying a traditional Hammam. This rejuvenating spa experience includes a steam bath followed by an invigorating scrub using local black soap, leaving your skin glowing and smooth. This ritual is a weekly routine for many Moroccans and a fantastic way to cleanse your skin and relax. Your hotel is the perfect place to try out this revitalising treatment.
After your action-packed days soaking up the culture of Marrakech your next adventure takes you just one hour’s drive away from the city center, yet the surrounding landscape could not be more different. The Agafay desert is a barren, gravelly landscape with gentle hills and rocky outcrops. Here, there is plenty of space to explore and let your inner thrill-seeker emerge as you try out dune buggies or quad bikes. Otherwise, you may prefer the gentler, plodding pace of a camel, as you enjoy a trek around the striking landscape. By night, you will sleep in a traditional Moroccan Caidal tent, equipped with modern amenities, including running water, flushing toilets and even air conditioning! As you relax and watch the sun dip below the horizon, listening to local musicians, you’ll soon forget you are not miles away among the sand dunes of the Sahara, as you relish the desert experience and endless starry sky.
A scenic drive, taking around an hour and a half, takes you to your final stop in the stunning Atlas Mountains, where you'll enjoy panoramic views of mountain peaks and winding creeks. We have included a guided trek passing by small, traditional Berber villages, where locals still take their mules to market and medicines are made from herbs and spices grown in the area.
At your hotel, you can choose to do as much, or as little, as you wish where relaxing by the pool, simply enjoying the cooler temperatures and mountain views is more than acceptable. Otherwise, there is an array of other activities to choose from including mountain biking, mule trekking and cookery classes. You can also visit a local market, which you will find a lot calmer compared to the noisy thrill of Marrakech’s medina. You’ll be able to meet with locals, many of who still make craft using traditional methods dating back hundred of years.
At the end of your stay Marrakech airport is just over an hour’s drive away, allowing you a diverse itinerary without long driving times.
Enjoy a peaceful trek with the desert's most iconic animal. Arabian camels, known as dromedaries, differ to other species featuring a single hump rather than two. Your Berber guide will lead you away from the camp to enjoy breathtaking sunset views.
A very special breakfast awaits at The Selman Hotel, with a memorable presentation of Arabian thoroughbreds. Whilst enjoying a delicious selection of food and the stunning views the hotel's majestic horses will showcase their elegance and skills.
What better way to explore the narrow, winding streets of Marrakech then with a thrilling side car experience? Along with a local guide you’ll be take off-the-beaten track to find some of the hidden treasures of Marrakech.
The perfect way to explore the vast expanse of the Atlas mountains is on foot, and there are a number of different routes and options available, depending on your preferences and previous experience. Enjoy a short introductory walk or longer hike.
