Venice, Italy

The State Department has changed their advice for travelers to Italy to Level 3 (re-consider travel). From 8 March, the Italian authorities extended the area of isolation to cover the whole of the Lombardy region and the provinces of Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia and Rimini (all in Emilia Romagna); Pesaro e Urbino (in Marche); Venezia and Padova (in Veneto); Asti and Alessandria (in Piemonte). The State Department advice will be regularly reviewed and may be changed depending on how the fast-changing coronavirus situation evolves. Also see our travel information regarding Coronavirus.

Description

An incredible journey to or from Venice by train, perfect for those who yearn for the golden age of travel. One can never be overdressed with guests encouraged to don their finery as they dine in the Cote d’Azur carriage or unwind in the Champagne Bar.

Step back in time to a bygone era and the golden age of travel, aboard the opulent Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, part of Belmond Collection. Steeped in history, the train has been beautifully restored with stand-out 1920s features, and each carriage oozes the glamour and sophistication of the era thanks to the authentic Art Deco style.

Guests can relax in their own beautifully-appointed private cabin, which by day is set up as a lounge with a plush sofa, footstool and table, and in the evening is transformed into a bedroom with upper and lower beds. Each has a small washbasin facility, hidden behind beautiful oak panels and containing a host of luxury amenities. A dedicated steward looks after each carriage, and ensures your every need is attended to. Breakfast can be enjoyed in the privacy of your own cabin or in one of the restaurant cars.

Dining on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is an unforgettable experience, offering exquisite European cuisine, using the freshest local ingredients picked up at stops along the route, and a fantastic list of wines to be enjoyed in sumptuous surroundings. Dinner is an elegant affair, with guests encouraged to wear tuxedos or glamorous dresses to experience an authentic 1920's evening on board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.

The bar, 3674, is a must - sip on champagne before dinner and a little digestif after dinner whist enjoying the pianist and listening to other travelers’ tales. Brunch, lunch, supper and afternoon tea are all served as you journey from the heart of London to the heart of Venice. The three restaurant cars on board are each refined and sophisticated, from the black lacquer-clad L'Oriental to the René Lalique-inspired Côte d'Azur. The Art Deco champagne bar makes for the perfect place to relax after dinner, and sip the finest champagnes from sparkling Lalique crystal.

The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express really is the experience of a lifetime. The train is absolutely stunning, with its iconic navy carriages and art deco interiors, it is like stepping back in time. The finer details really make this an ultra luxurious experience, from the Templa Spa toiletries to the crystal glassware and fine boned china used at dinner, it is clear no expense has been spared kitting out this fabulous train. The bar car offers a comfortable area in which to kick back and relax, taking in the stunning scenery while sampling a signature cocktail. The cabins themselves are cosy, but perfect for your night on the train, with a little sink and plenty of luggage racks, as well of course as your sofa, turned bed at night. The food, all included, is incredible, especially considering it is prepared in two tiny on-board kitchens! Head chef Christian cooks up an absolute treat, and you certainly will not be leaving hungry! I loved every minute of my time on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, it really is a magical experience.
